Thank you for continuing to subscribe to the 8th Division Newsletter! Time flies when you are having fun! As we conclude another successful year, I look forward to 2025 as we continue to address concerns within our community.

A huge shout out to the 8th Division Advisory Board. With out you, we would not be able to do what we do.

Lieutenant Larry Suttles is retiring after 23 years of service. Lieutenant Suttles joined the former Louisville Division of Police on September 10, 2001, unaware of the journey he was about to take on. Please join me in congratulating him on his retirement on January 1, 2025.

Officer Kevin Casper is retiring with 20 years of service. Officer Casper joined LMPD on August 23, 2004. During his years of service to the community, he served in many different units. Please join me in congratulating him on a well-deserved retirement on February 1, 2025.

Officers of the Month-November

Officer Koester was the first officer to arrive on a scene of a shooting. Officer Koester located the victim inside of a vehicle and immediately began to render aid. Officer Koester located a single gunshot wound to the victim's back and applied a chest seal over the wound. Officer Koester checked for additional wounds and handed over care to Fire and EMS upon their arrival.

Officer Frye responded to a report of a consumer who had sustained a self-inflicted stab wound. Officer Frye was familiar with the location as he had responded there previously to help an autistic adult in crisis. Officer Frye found the consumer and the mother engaged in a verbal dispute. The consumer was heard making threats of self-harm and threatening to go to the kitchen to commit suicide. Officer Frye attempted tirelessly to establish communication and de-escalate the situation. Officer Frye was able to calm the down and convince them to sit at the table with him. The consumer continued to make suicidal statements and asked multiple times for Officer Frye to shoot them. Officer Frye continued to speak calmly and stabilized the situation, eventually gaining the consumer's trust, convincing them to accept the help they needed and to take medications as prescribed, leading to a safe and successful resolution to the crisis.

Officer of the Month- December

Officer Hamblin was dispatched to a vehicle facing the wrong direction in traffic. Once on scene, Officer Hamblin found an elderly driver behind the wheel. Officer Hamblin was able to calm the driver down and had the driver follow him until the driver became confused and was lost their way. Officer Hamblin was able to track the driver down again and help stop safely. Officer Hamblin loaded the person's groceries into his police vehicle and drove them home. Officer Hamblin took their groceries into their house and left a hand-written note with his information so they could contact him to locate their vehicle the following day. Officer Hamblin's actions are a true testament to his commitment to community service.

Who in the Lou am I?

LMPD has launched a new online portal called "Who in the Lou am I?". This online portal features photos of suspects from current LMPD cases. You can click on any of the photos and submit an anonymous tip to LMPD if you are able to identify the suspect. The link below will take you to the new online portal.
