I wanted to remind everyone about a meeting scheduled next week in partnership with Metro Codes and Regulations. This meeting, called 'Code Enforcement Matters,' is a chance for you to meet a supervisor from Codes and Regulations in person, learn about code enforcement specifically, and ask any questions you might have. The meeting will be at the Berrytown Recreation Center on Wednesday, October 16 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. My office routinely gets questions related to code enforcement, so I think this will prove to be a worthwhile event. I hope you can make it!
Brightside's fall community-wide cleanup will be held a week from tomorrow, and District 17 will be participating! For those interested in volunteering, please join us in front of Malcolm Chancey Elementary School (4301 Murphy Lane) on Saturday, October 19 at 9 a.m. to pick up litter along Murphy Lane. I'll have trash bags, gloves, grabbers, t-shirts, and maybe even some doughnuts for those in attendance! If you can't make it that morning or you want to focus on your own neighborhood, that's great, too. You can register here to get the necessary items from Brightside for your own cleanup. Either way, I hope you'll be able to join others throughout Louisville that weekend making our city a little bit cleaner.
This month's Pop-Up Drop-Off will be Saturday, October 19 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at UofL's Shelby Campus, 440 N. Whittington Parkway. As you likely know by now, these events are great opportunities to properly dispose of mattresses, electronics, prescription medications, personal documents, and much more. Click here for more information including some helpful tips before you go. Next month's event at Shawnee Park will be the last one of the year, so don't miss out!
Tree Week 2024 is a (roughly) week-long celebration of trees starting tomorrow in locations throughout Louisville. Citizens will have the opportunity to plant trees and perform tree-related maintenance projects, join in guided hikes and educational talks, participate in family-friendly arts and crafts, and much more. More details on all the events offered can be found here.
Metro government is one of the 30 or so organizations participating. Our Parks and Recreation's Urban Forestry Division will be giving away 500 three-gallon container trees to Jefferson County residents (limit of three per household). The giveaway will be Friday, October 18 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Joe Creason Park in the parking lot off Sheridan Avenue. Species available include Kentucky coffeetree, tulip poplar, American hornbeam, blackgum, pawpaw, and spicebush. I hope you'll be able to participate in some way!
