Join JMF staff for a family-friendly fall exploration and campout at Jefferson Memorial Forest. The event is held near the Forest’s Environmental Education Center and offers a wide variety of activities showcasing all the Forest has to offer. Afternoon activities include archery, climbing wall, guided hikes, pumpkin decorating, hay rides, and nature play. Nighttime activities include spooky hike, movie and s’mores by the bonfire. Program meets in the Horine Reservation.

FEE for camping: $25 family campsite, $15 field, festival-style camping. All ages. A parent/legal guardian must accompany anyone under the age of 18. Space is limited for camping. Reserve your spot today by calling 502/368- 5404.

Metro Council Committee Summary

Last week Metro Council committees met and adopted several resolutions and ordinances as well as hosted discussions with the Coalition for the Homeless and the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District. 

The Community Affairs and Equity Committee adopted a resolution recognizing October 2^nd as Wrongful Conviction Day, and accepted funding for the Love Your Blocks program and navigator outreach service.  The committee approved three additional contracts for Metro’s laboratory director, physician services at the MORE Center, and with Playworks Education Energized.  The committee was also given a presentation from the Coalition for the Homeless.    

The Public Safety Committee held a discussion on a proposed ordinance which would regulate unarmed security officers. 

The Parks and Sustainability Committee was given a presentation from the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District. 

The Budget Committee approved an ordinance for artwork at Waterfront Development Park.

Metro Council meets again on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 6:00pm.

Additionally, they are encouraging community participation in discussions about potential improvements to roadways like Green Belt and New Cut/Taylor Boulevard, ensuring that the voices of local residents are heard in these key projects. Looking to the future, the Dream Team is advocating for the Mill Creek Greenways Project, which aims to transform neglected waterways into recreational spaces, setting a national standard for urban stream recovery. They are also committed to advancing the Jefferson Memorial Forest, the largest urban forest in the U.S., by attracting more attention and resources to this underappreciated asset.

Facing Challenges Together Like many volunteer-driven organizations, the Southwest Dream Team faces challenges, particularly in securing funding for key projects. One of their goals is to conduct a Cash Study that would highlight the region’s cash-based economy—something that hasn’t been done in over 15 years. This study could play a critical role in attracting new businesses and investments.

Public Comment Notice for Citizen Input on Pathways to Removing Obstacles FY24 PRO Housing NOFO

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued a competitive NOFO titled Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) for the purpose of providing grant funding for the identification and removal of barriers to affordable housing production and preservation.

Louisville Metro Government will hold one public hearing: Tuesday October 8, 1:00pm, at 444 South 5th Street, Louisville, KY 40202, in the first-floor conference room. The purpose of the meeting is to receive citizen comment on the draft of Metro’s 2024 PRO Housing NOFO Grant. This meeting will be held in person and streamed virtually via Teams. Access to the meeting can be found HERE.
