At a little after 1:30 a.m. on August 11th, multiple shots were fired in and around the 900 block of Baxter Ave, resulting in two deaths and one serious injury. Video footage is currently being reviewed to understand the timeline of events.
Our hearts go out to the innocent bystanders and the victims’ families who suffered as a result of this incident. No one enjoying our city should be burdened by the fear of violence.
Metro Police believe this was a targeted hit stemming from a long-standing conflict, rather than an isolated incident that evening.
The perpetrators took action despite the visible presence of two off-duty uniformed LMPD officers on the scene at the time of the incident. ABC officers were also already on the street that evening enabling the rapid response. We thank them for their service.
Our office remains in regular contact with LMPD, ABC, and the Mayor's office. Over the coming weeks, we will lay out some of the additional measures that we will be taking, several of which are the result of months of effort.
