Message from Major Wampler
I am happy to report over the previous four reporting periods there have not been any reported thefts from vehicles in residential neighborhoods. As you may remember, there was a spike in this activity the beginning of June. The 8th Division, in collaboration with various units across the Louisville Metro Police Department, worked quickly to respond to the activity conducting several coordinated operations. These efforts resulted in several arrests and a relief from this type of criminal activity in our neighborhoods.
I am urging everyone to remain vigilant and proactive to help safeguard our community. A majority of car break-ins routinely involve unlocked vehicles and most stolen vehicles usually have the keys left inside them. Additionally, open garages are often targeted by criminals resulting in thefts from vehicles and auto thefts. By taking simple preventative measures, we can significantly reduce the attractiveness of our neighborhoods to criminals.
Please utilize the following prevention tips to reduce your chances of being victimized:
-
REMOVE KEYS FROM INSIDE VEHICLES
-
LOCK VEHICLE DOORS
-
CLOSE GARAGES
-
REMOVE GARAGE DOOR OPENERS FROM VEHICLES
-
REMOVE ANY VALUABLES FROM INSIDE VEHICLES
Your cooperation is essential in making our neighborhoods safer and less appealing to potential thieves. By locking your vehicles and ensuring keys and garage door openers are not left inside vehicles, we can collectively deter criminal activity.
Furthermore, I would like to share pictures highlighting two of our recent community events. We invite you to join us at future events to meet officers who serve your community and asks us any questions you may have. We look forward to the opportunity to connect with our residents at these events.

June 2024
8th Division
Officers of the Month
|
|
 |
Last month, Officer Alexander Gibson and Officer Andrew Streble were dispatched to a routine loud party call at approximately 9 pm. What began as a standard call for service quickly evolved leading to a larger investigation and multiple arrests. When the officers arrived, they quickly observed an AK-47 style pistol which none of the attendees claimed ownership of. Then they located individuals in a nearby vehicle who were using drugs. The officers engaged the individuals and conducted a thorough investigation leading to the discovery of three Glock handguns which had been illegally modified to shoot fully automatic and one of them was found to be reported stolen. The seizure of these firearms not only removed dangerous weapons from our streets but linked them to other crimes furthering ongoing investigations.
The proactive actions of Officer Gibson and Officer Streble resulted in four firearms being removed from the streets of our community and the arrest of several individuals. The seizure of these firearms likely prevented them from being used in future criminal acts or violent crimes. Additionally, their diligence created leads furthering other vital investigations.
Please join me in celebrating Officer Alexander Gibson and Officer Andrew Streble's dedication and exceptional work while serving the residents of Louisville Metro and being named the 8th Division Officers of the Month.
