 As a proud alum of Pleasure Ridge Park High School, it brings me immense joy to celebrate the 2024 championship baseball team. This remarkable group of athletes has just clinched PRP's seventh state title after a seven-year wait, marking a triumphant return to the top.
Unlike many of the powerhouse teams of the past, this year's squad didn't enter the season with lofty expectations. They were overlooked and unranked, a stark reminder that you should never count the South End out. Against all odds, these young men set a school record with a phenomenal 40-3 record, showcasing unparalleled grit, teamwork, and perseverance.
This team's fighting spirit is something that legendary coach Bill Miller would have been immensely proud of. Coach Brad Burns, along with his dedicated coaching staff, did an extraordinary job guiding the team to victory. Their efforts have not only earned them a state title but also the admiration and respect of our entire community.
The resilience and determination displayed by these South End kids are qualities we all admire and aspire to. Their success is a testament to the strength and unity of our community. It was heartwarming to see the South End community show up in full force, outnumbering the fans from Lexington during the championship game in their own city.
In honor of their victory, the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge was lit up in red, a vibrant tribute to the team's outstanding achievement. This gesture symbolizes the immense pride and joy felt by everyone in our community.
Congratulations to PRP for this remarkable achievement. The pride and joy this victory brings to our community are immeasurable. Though Coach Burns may have been reluctant to say it all season, it is clear now: PRP is back!

On June 20th, the Louisville Metro Council unanimously approved the Capital and Operating Budgets for the city. This budget, shaped through numerous hearings and extensive negotiations, outlines our community’s financial priorities for the upcoming year. While the majority of Mayor Greenberg’s proposed expenditures were preserved, modifications were made to address areas of particular concern to the Metro Council members.
As we approached FY25, my colleagues and I prioritized funding for safety measures, road maintenance, and parks. However, upon reviewing the mayor’s budget, it was clear that these areas were significantly underfunded. Consequently, several of us on the Metro Council initiated efforts to secure an additional nearly $12 million to meet our objectives.
The Council’s amendments to the Mayor’s Budget Proposal resulted in the following allocations:
- A total of $30 million for road paving, as recommended by Public Works in our ten-year plan for street repairs

$4.3 million for street markings and signage to enhance motorist safety
-
$2.9 million to tackle deferred maintenance in our parks (including play equipment, paving, lighting, and restrooms)
- Restoration of cuts to the Soil and Water, along with partial funding for Cooperative Extension Offices
- Increased funding for Community Ministries to adapt to shifting population demographics, while reducing funding in some areas.
A significant victory for us in this budget is the allocation of $600,000 for Phase 2 of Windsor Park. This funding, which will be used for the installation of playground equipment and other park amenities, is a testament to our collective efforts and commitment to improving our community. It will greatly enhance our recreational facilities and contribute to the quality of life in District 25. This achievement is a huge win for us and underscores the effectiveness of our advocacy and negotiation efforts.
As we recognize PRP's Baseball achievements, we would also like to shine a light and to celebrate PRP's bowling teams’ state championship sweep in February.
The boys’ team, consisting of seniors Brandon Logsdon, Austin Nelson, Lucas Pendola, juniors Jaiden Farley, Grayson Roll, Shane Vincent, Noah Wright, and sophomores Cooper Alexander, Corey Mercer, and Will Wells, clinched the crown a day after the girls’ team won the state title.
The victorious girls’ team included seniors Kailee Blain, Ryan Dallum, Madison Wallace, juniors Phoenix Newkirk, Shreya Patel, sophomores Marisa Duffy, Caitlyn Nelson, Jordyn Sprague, freshman Lily Pait, and seventh-grader Samantha Peerce.
Congratulations to both teams on their outstanding performance. Go, PRP! Keep rolling those strikes!
 
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Pop-Up Drop-Off event at Doss High School on June 15th! Your participation made this large item and waste disposal event a tremendous success. It was fantastic to see so many community members come together to help keep our community tidy.
A special shoutout to those who sorted their recyclables, yard waste, and large items before arriving—it truly helped keep the traffic smooth and the process efficient. We commend everyone for disposing of waste the right way and not just dumping it on the side of the road.
