Quote of the Week:

"I have always admired men and women who used their talents to serve the community, and who were highly respected and admired for their efforts and sacrifices, even though they held no office whatsoever in government or society."

Putting the Unity in Community

Dear Constituents,

As we embrace the warmth of the summer, it’s time to reflect on the bonds that tie us together as a community. Our neighborhood is not just a place on the map; it’s a tapestry of relationships, shared experiences, and mutual support. This season, we’re excited to announce several initiatives aimed at strengthening these connections and fostering a vibrant community spirit.

We understand the importance of having dedicated efforts to bring our community together. That’s why we’ve hired our first Community Engagement Coordinator, Vicki, who will be instrumental in facilitating our community events. Vicki’s passion and expertise will be a cornerstone in our journey towards a united neighborhood. See more about Vicki below!

One of our primary goal this summer is to reach out and connect with as many of you as possible. We believe that every individual, organization, and business is a vital part of our community’s fabric. To weave these threads into a stronger whole, we’re also focusing on the formation of constituent-led neighborhood associations. These associations will be the voice and the hands of our community, driving change from within. If you’re interested in being a part of this transformative movement, please reach out to our office.

There’s no contribution too small when it comes to building our community. We have a plethora of volunteer opportunities coming up, and we need your help to make each event a success. Whether you have a few hours to spare or can commit to a regular schedule, your involvement will make a significant impact.

We recognize that the greatest challenge we face is nurturing a positive attitude within our community. It’s the foundation upon which all our efforts rest. We’re calling on each of you to join us in this cultural shift, to believe in the power of unity, and to act on the conviction that together, we can achieve greatness.

Let’s embark on this journey with open hearts and minds, ready to support one another and build a community that we can all be proud of.

South End Summer Picnics

I’m happy to share some photo of my family and I at the summer picnics of St. Edward and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel this past weekend. It was truly an honor to be part of such cherished community events.

The picnics were a fantastic display of the community spirit that makes Louisville such a special place. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the rides, and the live music added a perfect touch to our summer celebrations.

These gatherings are a beautiful reflection of what we can achieve when we come together, supporting our local parishes and reinforcing the bonds within our community. I am inspired by the dedication of all the volunteers and parish members who work tirelessly to organize these events.

I am grateful for the opportunity to join in the festivities and for the warm reception from everyone. Let’s keep nurturing these traditions that bring joy and unity to our city.

Looking forward to many more picnics (or any other event) where we can connect and celebrate together.

Happy 101st Birthday to Chester Evans!

Today, we raise our glasses to a remarkable milestone. Chester, you’ve graced this world with your presence for over a century, and we’re all the richer for it.

From the green fairways where you’ve swung with grace, to the dance floors you’ve lit up with your moves, you’ve lived life to the fullest. And let’s not forget the Miller High Life—one a day, just as the doctor prescribed, proving that a little of what you fancy does you good.

Here’s to you, Chester, on your 101st birthday! May your days be filled with joy, your fairways be evergreen, and your dance steps be light. Keep savoring life!

Introducing Vicki Pippin Guffey, Our New Community Engagement Coordinator!

We are thrilled to welcome Vicki Pippin Guffey as our new Community Engagement Coordinator for District 25! Vicki brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted connection to our community. Raised in Prairie Village and a proud graduate of Doss, Vicki has been married to her husband Will for 21 years. They have four wonderful children and four adorable grandchildren. After a retiring from her remarkable 29-year career at UPS, Vicki is ready to dedicate her time and passion to our community.

Here’s what Vicki has to say about joining our team: “The South End has been my home all of my life. I still remember my neighborhood friends and our parents were like a village, raising all of us. I think there is an opportunity to return to that kind of neighborly way and build a support system within our neighborhoods. I want everyone to be proud and feel lucky to live in the South End, like I do!”

Vicki’s commitment to fostering a supportive and proud community is truly inspiring. We are confident that her dedication and vision will help us strengthen our neighborhoods and create a vibrant, united District 25. Please join us in giving Vicki a warm welcome!

Celebrating the Stars of Doss High’s Engineering Programs

We’re thrilled to give a big shout-out to the talented seniors of Doss High School’s Engineering Program! Their remarkable work on the new bench at the TARC stop is not just a place to sit, but a symbol of the dedication that our young residents embody.

This bench isn’t just a piece of furniture; it’s a testament to the practical skills and community spirit that the program instills in its students. It represents countless hours of planning, problem-solving, and teamwork.

Leading the charge in this project were Kevani Sebeli, Donaldo Barrientos Osorio, and Luiz Martins Riberio, with the expert guidance of Alexis Salgado Flores (affectionately known as El Jefe). Their leadership and hard work were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.

Let’s not forget the crucial support provided by Angel Jimenez and Daniela Guevara Marquez, a high school junior, whose contributions were vital to the project’s success.

Stay tuned as we plan to dive deeper into their journey and celebrate this achievement in an upcoming feature. Keep an eye on this space for more stories of inspiration and achievement from our community’s future leaders!
