Effort to address this critical need was part of a decade of work by Councilman Stuart Benson

Louisville, KY: High speed internet access was expanded to nearly 2,000 households in Eastern and Southeastern Jefferson County after more than decade of work. Funding and leadership allocated by Stuart Benson of District 20 Metro Council, with support additional grants from the Federal Government, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the involvement Spectrum made the access possible. An event today celebrated the deployment.
The project was spearheaded by Councilman Stuart Benson (District 20) and included the involvement of Louisville Metro Mayor Craig Greenberg, Spectrum Associate Vice President Ellen Call, Metro Councilman Kevin Kramer (District 11) and Councilman Anthony Piagentini (District 19), Chris Seidt of Louisville Metro Technology and John LaFollette (LG&E).
“Reliable high-speed broadband is a necessity for business, education, and civic life. After a decade of work, broadband is now available to the southeastern Jefferson County residents who reside in unserved households. This is undoubtably one of the most important projects undertaken since the start of merged government. We are excited to announce that the entire county will soon have access to broadband they need to conduct business, educate themselves and make this community a stronger Metro Louisville. “Access to high-speed internet is no longer a luxury. Having the ability to work or even study from home has become essential. Assisting more rural areas like those in eastern and southeastern Jefferson County was something Councilman Benson was focused on years prior to COVID. During the event, attendees had the opportunity to meet with representatives from Spectrum, LG&E and Metro Government to learn about the expansion process to areas of Jefferson County currently lacking highspeed internet. This included the installation process, the equipment being used for installation and maps showing current and future stages of the project.
