Anti-Violence Coalition Meetings We have had a decent kickoff to the Anti-Violence Coalition meetings within our district. The Anti-Violence Coalition meetings are hosted by OSHN and are held biweekly. They focus on bringing community voices together to strategically draft a plan for their respective neighborhoods to help curb violence.
The next AVC meetings in our district:
* Algonquin: OSHN rep, Carrington Malone * St Denis: OSHN rep, Bayleigh Lockhart * Taylor-Berry: April 15th, 2-3p at South Louisville Community Center. OSHN rep, Kyle Geele.
Checking in with Shively.... Our team makes it a point to always be in the loop of community needs and information. We attend the Shively City council meetings regularly. Last meeting discussed a grant to get more body armor for the Shively Police Department. Next meeting will be April 1st, at 630pm at Shively City Hall.
Birthdays!ย Happy Birthday to our District 3 Legislative Page, Dynasty El Morae! She turned 8 March 18th. Dynasty is an honor student at Watterson Elementary school. She loves training in karate, gymnastics and she is a devout roller skater! Help us wish Dynasty a happy Birthday! Shively Library We had a great meeting with the Shively Library this week focusing on the improvements we would like to see in the new library we have plans to build within the district. Shively library services about 6,000 to 9,000 people a month and is in dire need of bigger space for their efforts. We have spoken with Mayor Johnson of the Shively City Council about collaborating on this project and they are excited to endeavor in this with us. We will be hosting a community meeting to listen to the concerns and the upgrades the community would like to see in the new Shively library coming this month. If you cannot make the community meeting and would still like your voice heard please email us at the office, either Ben or I, and we can add your suggestions to the list.
District Advisory Board (3DAB) The next district advisory board meeting will be, April 8th at Shively City Hall at 6pm. This meeting will be discussing putting into action the initiatives and plans discuss within the board boards last two meetings. The district advisory Board is open to all constituents within the district 3 neighborhoods. Please join us to have your voice heard.
Prospective Programming Initiatives: Looked at property for a new Agricultural center for kids. Focusing on gardening and initiatives related to agriculture for youth and kids located in District 3.
Met with Division 2 LMPD officers This week we met with LMPD division 2 officers to talk about the needs of our constituents within District 3 that are serviced by division 2. The division two district resource officers are Officer Bell and Officer Williams. They reported that most calls out of division 2 within the district are to service abandoned cars. Just a reminder that if you have an abandoned vehicle that you need to report you can always report it to codes and regulations either directly or through 311 so that they can help you with your needs.
LMHA meet and greet This week we sat down with the executive director of the Louisville Metro Housing authority and discussed the future state of LMHA and how services will be improved for residents at all its facilities. Councilwoman has co-sponsored a formal investigation into LMHA and this week we sat with them to discuss how we could support their efforts in creating a better housing authority. We have high hopes that the new executive director can turn around this department for the better servicing of our Louisville Metro constituents.
Community health needs assessment part 3 This week was the last meeting of three held by Seven Counties and discussing community health needs and assessing how we can better serve those experiencing acute behavioral/mental health crises within the city. Our office is in the process of furthering these conversations by developing an interagency group to better communicate and serve this demographic more effectively.
UofL civic engagement panel This week we had the pleasure of attending and participating in a UofL Civic engagement panel posted by the students of the university. We engaged with students as they asked questions about civic engagement pertaining to organizing, political campaigning, and lobbying for legislation. If there are any students who are interested in interning, and or visiting City Hall, please reach out to us as we are enthusiastic about teaching the in's and outs of the political arena.
Division 4 LMPD ride along This week we will be going on a ride along within the division four of the LMPD service area. Most of this area falls within the District 3 boundary and we are excited to see and evaluate what the district needs are.

 We are so excited about the Baldwin-King Memorial Lecture on April 4th at 5pm. Meet us at Roots101 (124 N 1st St) to hear an amazing lecture about how Baldwin and King would understand our current world.ย
 On April 5th, the Councilwoman will be a speaker at Second Baptist Church discussing the lives lost to lynching and other racist violence. This will take place at 6:30pm at 300 E Main Street in New Albany, Indiana.ย
 Please mark your calendars for the DOJ Public Community Meeting on Monday, April 8th from 6pm-7:30pm at 1720 W Broadway. We encourage you to attend and share your thoughts and concerns.ย
District 3 is THRILLED to announce Shakespeare in the Park will be coming to District 3 at William Harrison Park (3232 Oleanda Ave Louisville,ย KYย 40215).This amazing performance will be on April 27th at 6:30pm. We can't wait to see everyone there and watch some great actors! Thank you to Kentucky Shakespeare!
