Transportation Cabinet to host public meetings April 16 and 17
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 28, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will hold a second round of public meetings in April regarding the Interstate 64 Interchange + Connector Planning Study. The study began in summer 2023 to examine access and congestion issues east of Interstate 265 with a goal of exploring options to reduce congestion on the existing roadway network and to improve I-64 connectivity.
This study considers the need for a new interchange on Interstate 64 (I-64) in eastern Jefferson or western Shelby County. The potential interchange would be between I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) and KY 1848 (Buck Creek Road) in Shelby County.
In addition to considering a new I-64 interchange, this study is evaluating potential routes connecting U.S. 60 to the north (near Eastwood) to KY 155/KY 148 to the south (near Fisherville).
Following public input from the first set of public meetings and an online survey in fall 2023, the project team developed three potential build concepts. Engineers evaluated a range of solutions by examining benefits, costs, and impacts. A project-specific traffic model was also developed for the region, considering expected growth and changing land uses through 2045.
These roadway concepts will be presented at two upcoming public meetings. KYTC representatives and engineering design consultants will attend to answer questions from residents and roadway users. Handouts containing information about the project and comment sheets will be available at the meetings:
- Tuesday, April 16, 6-8 p.m. Echo Trail Middle School (Gymnasium, use entrance on left side of school) 2601 Echo Trail, Louisville, KY 40245
- Wednesday, April 17, 6-8 p.m. Christian Academy of Louisville (Cafeteria, use entrances 6,7, 8 at rear of school) 700 S. English Station Road, Louisville, KY 40245
The meeting format will be informal. Attendees may stop by any time between 6 and 8 p.m. A brief presentation will be given at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. each night. A recording of the presentation will also be shown continuously throughout the meeting for anyone unable to attend during those times.
Information about this planning study, including public meeting materials and a survey, can be found online at http://connect64.com. Feedback will be accepted through May 1.
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), anyone with a disability requiring assistance is asked to contact Morgan Woodrum at KYTC, no later than Friday, April 12. Please call 502-764-0481 or mail your request to 8310 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40242. Additionally, in compliance with Title VI, translation services are also offered.
We have a lot of new subscribers so I just wanted to remind everyone of the DISTRICT 20 INTERACTIVE ZONING MAP!
Over the years many of you have requested an easier way to access zoning information in District 20 so we have come up with an interactive map that will allow you to click on the icons or search for proposed zoning plans around your address to see what is going on around you. Each icon over an address contains the project name, case number, address and applicant information with a direct link to Accela where you can download plans, applications or just read more about the case.
This interactive zoning map contains 5 years of cases dating back to 10/1/2018. Some of the cases have been approved, denied or are currently ongoing but I felt that it was important to share this tool with the residents of District 20. As always, if you have questions or you are interested in learning about a case that is older please don't hesitate to reach out to me at 502-574-1120 or stuart.benson@louisvilleky.gov. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1I7k4zoChmNG1cfB93GwwrsfFj7aGR1A&usp=sharing

I am happy to say Spring is officially here. The warmer weather will be a welcomed change as many of us return to our outdoor activities. During this time, please remember to take steps to protect yourself and your property. Be cognizant of your surroundings reporting any suspicious activity you observe. As you visit our local parks ensure you lock your vehicles and do not leave any valuable items visible that may tempt a thief.
The recent 8th Division community outreach efforts have been well attended and successful. We had a child focused St. Patrick's Day Sweets & Sirens event at the Kroger on Westport Road with the Anchorage Middletown Fire Department. This event was fun for everyone who attended. We are planning to host additional events with our friends at Anchorage Middletown Fire to build on this success. Our 2nd Meet Your Beat Officer event was at the Northeast YMCA. There were several community partners who participated to include Kroger, Meijer, McDonalds, the Lyndon Police Department, the St. Matthews Fire Department, and several other LMPD units. The constant flow of residents who stopped by where able to ask questions and take advantage of the many give aways from our partners.
The next large event the 8th Division will be holding is our first Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday March 30, 2024, which we plan to make an annual event. Please consider attending this event and bringing any children you know. There will be several giveaways, activities, and opportunities to interact with your 8th Division officers.

The Louisville Audubon Society reminds you that peak Spring Bird Migration occurs in April and May. Please consider participating in LIGHTS OUT LOUISVILLE to make your home, neighborhood, and our city more bird-friendly. For more information, visit www.louisvilleaudubon.org and following our prompt on the home page to our LIGHTS OUT LOUISVILLE page. Thanks!
If you yourself go to that page (https://www.audubon.org/our-work/cities-and-towns/lights-out), you will find out that: * most birds migrate at night (3.7 million birds flew over Jefferson County on Derby Night last year!) * night lights confuse birds * hundreds of millions of birds die in the US every year because of building collisions, especially at night. * together we can reduce those numbers. Forty-nine other U.S. Cities already participate in the Audubon LIGHTS OUT program, including Cincinnati and Indianapolis.
Between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. RESIDENTS CAN: ● Turn off unnecessary lights indoors. Shades, blinds and curtains can be used to prevent the glare from indoor lights shining through windows and confusing low-flying birds. ● Turn off unnecessary lights outdoors, which protects birds and reduces electric bills. ● Put necessary lighting on timers or use motion sensors, which not only protect birds but alert you if someone is in your yard after dark. ● Make sure external lighting is down-shielded so light shines where people need it, not upward into the night sky, which confuses birds.
BUILDING MANAGERS CAN TAKE THE ABOVE STEPS AND ALSO: ● Turn off unnecessary lighting especially near the tops of buildings ● Dim or extinguish lobby or atrium lighting We have a strong opportunity for a WIN-WIN situation here, one that protects birds and reduces energy costs, while still living safely. Thank you so much for your time and consideration of this request. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at louisvilleaudubon@gmail.com .
Sincerely, The Louisville Audubon Society Board of Directors
