I-265 Widening Project Enters into its Last Year of Construction Newsletter from I-Move Kentucky
As we kick off the final year of the I-Move Kentucky project, we have a lot of work planned in the upcoming months! Crews will continue to expand I-265 to six lanes, with work moving north of the Westport Road exit. Work will also continue at the I-64/I-265 interchange and on I-71, where crews are making way for the new southbound lane.
Winter weather means crews will need to adjust their work schedules based on the cold or inclement weather like snow. Remember to slow down in construction zones, especially when driving through snow and ice.
More information can be found at the project website, I-MoveKY.com. Follow along on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/IMoveKY) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/IMoveKY) for the latest news and traffic alerts.
Interchange update:
One year later A lot has changed at the I-64/I-265 interchange in just a year! These pictures show the new flyover ramp that now crosses I-64 and will support the new ramps from I-64 East to I-265 North and from I-265 North to I-64 West. This new partial turbine design will replace two of the cloverleaf ramps at the current interchange. In addition to constructing the new ramp, crews have also been busy excavating under I-265 and moving dirt to make way for the new ramps.
Recently, crews also worked to pave a new lane for the ramp from I-265 North to I-64 East. This ramp is being shifted toward the south to make room for the new ramps from I-64 East to I-265 North and from I-265 North to I-64 West. Learn more about the new interchange design here.
Widening the Gene Snyder:
We're in the home stretch! The widening of I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) going north from Westport Road (Exit 32) has begun. This stretch from Westport Road to the I-71/I-265 interchange is the last section of the Gene Snyder that will be expanded. Once complete, this section will have a new 12-foot traffic lane in each direction, creating a total of six lanes between KY 155 (Taylorsville Road) and I-71.
