District 15 News

New Header

Tomorrow is the big tree planting day in Schnitzelburg and Germantown! We'll be putting 125 trees in the ground! I hope you'll consider joining us. Scroll down for me to continue my plea.

The holiday season doesn't mean a slow-down for District 15—there's plenty to do in this festive season!

Speaking of festive, don't forget about Light Up Louisville happening Saturday, December 2nd. The event kicks off at 4 pm with the switch being flipped by Santa himself at 7:45 pm. You can find more info here.

I'm keeping it short this time, but I want to leave you with this during this time of thanks giving:

I am so grateful that y'all allow me to serve this District and city. I can't tell you how honored that I am to wake up and do what I love every day. I'm still in awe that I get to walk into City Hall and go to work for you. Y'all are simply the best.

Schnitzelburg & Germantown Tree Planting: December 2

SGP Tree Planting

There’s still time to help us plant 125 trees in Schnitzelburg and Germantown tomorrow! We’ll be meeting at the All Wool & A Yard Wide Democratic Club at 8:30 am to get sorted into tree planting groups. There will be free coffee, bagels, and Nord’s Donuts for volunteers.

Louisville Grows has been hard at work staging the trees all week and prepping for the big day. They’re all stars! 🤩
Tree planting days are some of my favorites! It’s not only a way to enhance the environment—it’s a great opportunity to get to know new folks and explore neighborhoods more intimately on foot. 💚 And you don’t have to live in these neighborhoods or have tree planting experience to volunteer!

This planting was made possible through a Louisville MSD grant my office applied for with Louisville Grows.
Hope to see you tomorrow!

Blossom Needs a Home for the Holidays

Blossom

Meet Blossom!

I found this sweet girl eating trash in the middle of Taylor Blvd on October 11th. She was mega skinny, covered in scars, and obviously had littered puppies in the past. Despite her condition, she's as sweet as can be, so she jumped in my car and we cruised off.

My amazing next-door neighbor, Hallie, has been "fostering" her in her spare bathroom and we've been tag-teaming her care. She's healthily put on weight, has been spayed, and is up-to-date on vaccines (thanks, Shamrock Foundation!). We adore her and know she's going to be the best girl for someone.

Unfortunately, there isn't any room for her at Metro Animal Services and she won't be able to stay at Hallie's much longer.

IDK what her past was, but I know her future is going to be bright—and YOU can be a part of it!

Here's the 411 on Blossom:

  • Spayed, up-to-date on shots, and flea-free
  • We're not exactly sure how old she is, but guessing a couple years (her teeth look great!)
  • She's...okay with other dogs. She really wants to play with dogs, but she will require supervised introductions and play while she gets integrated. Not sure how she is with small dogs. Training can be provided!
  • Not sure how she is with cats or kids
  • She knows basic commands
  • She's very active, so someone with a yard and/or who likes to walk/hike/jog would be great!
  • She comes with clothes and accessories, like play mats, harness + leash, poop bags, etc. We'll even throw in some bags of food!

This girl reallllllllly wants to be someone's cuddle buddy. Are you that person? Contact me ASAP and get ready to meet your new best friend!!

And, while a permanent home is ideal, we're also open to any big-hearted fosters.

REAL

REAL

Find out how you can help reduce single-use plastics in Louisville, how the city is expanding its work on sustainable energy, and how you can show support for the Louisville Metro Council's clean energy resolution at REAL's renewable energy source forum on Wednesday, December 6th from 7 pm - 8:30 pm. This is the 12th in a series of quarterly Zoom meetings aimed at encouraging the Metro Council to achieve the goals of its 2020 resolution for 100% clean energy by 2040. The event is free but registration is required.

In 2020 the Metro Council passed a resolution to move the city’s operations to 100% clean renewable electricity by 2030. That resolution also sets a goal of 100% clean energy for the entire Louisville community by 2040. December’s event will focus on initiatives that are underway to reduce single-use plastics in Louisville. There will also be an update of progress being made toward using renewable energy as the city expands its sustainability programs.

Speakers will include Pam Raidt with Beyond Plastics Louisville; Sumedha Rao, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability; and Betsy Ruhe, District 21 Metro Council Representative. Music by Louisville musician and activist John Gage will open and close the event. The event will also show how you can attend Metro Council meetings to speak in favor of implementing Louisville's clean energy resolution.

Louisville

Louisville Metro Gun Violence Dashboard

Gun Violence

The Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods launched the Louisville Metro Gun Violence Dashboard today. It gives the public a better idea of where gun violence is concentrated and who is being impacted.

It's no surprise that the areas in my district that have seen the least investment are the ones with the highest rates of gun violence. These neighborhoods deserve better and that's why I have been working on projects to invest in and uplift communities like Taylor Berry, University, Oakdale/Wyandotte, and Lucky Horseshoe. I'm really excited to see some things go into motion in 2024.

It's also worth mentioning that most of these neighborhoods don't have a neighborhood association or are represented by one that isn't active. Neighborhood associations are so important because they connect people who care and empower change. If you're interested in getting involved, please contact my office—we have work to do.

Growing Louisville Together Economic Plan

Greenie

Mayor Greenberg unveiled a draft of the city’s economic development plan called Growing Louisville Together. This plan has a lot to it besides straight economic development. It also includes investments in quality of place and education.
