 Councilwoman Parker and staff wishes everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!
In observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Metro Council District 18 office will close at noon on Wednesday, November 22nd, and closed all day Thursday, the 23rd & Friday, the 24th.
 The last Metro Pop-Up Drop-Off off of 2023, this past Saturday was a huge success and extremely well attended.
The event had 927 vehicles come through, the largest Pop-Up Drop-Off event yet! The lines stretch, most of the day all the way to Shelbyville Rd. (See the pictures below) Over 400 vehicles brought documents to shred (See Councilwoman Parker pictured above with Kym Muhammad) and almost 400 brought electronics to recycle. Nearly 300 brought bulk waste to drop off.
Thank you to everyone who attended and all the sponsors, including Metro Council Districts 16, 17, 19, 20 working with our D-18 office. Especially thank you to all the employees/volunteers who worked the event! We can not do this without you! We will see you in 2024
 
 Louisville Ballet and the Louisville Free Public Library are excited to announce the return of Nutcracker Family Storytimes. The annual tradition comes to the N.E. Regional Library Wednesday, November 29th at 6:30 P.M.
Children of all ages and their families are invited to join Louisville Ballet dancers for readings of the classic holiday story The Nutcracker, followed by Nutcracker-inspired dancing and crafts. In addition, every family at each storytime can enter for a chance to win four tickets to see Louisville Ballet’s upcoming production of The Brown-Forman Nutcracker.

District 18 residents who are outside the Urban Services District and who rely on private haulers for garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection should consult those haulers about their holiday collection schedule. It most likely will be delayed!
For the small portion in District 18 that are in the urban Services District here will be no residential garbage, recycling or yard waste collection within the Louisville Metro Urban Services District on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, 2023. Residents who normally have garbage/yard waste collection on Thursday will have service instead on Friday, November 24. The regular Friday collection will be delayed until Saturday, November 25.
Closings
Staffed recycling centers, the Waste Reduction Center, and the household hazardous waste facility, Haz Bin, will be closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. Leaf drop-off will also not be available those days. All four services will resume on Saturday, November 25.

Whether you’re pan frying the morning bacon or deep frying the holiday bird, you always have leftover fat, oil or grease. The slippery mess should never be poured into a sink, toilet or storm drain where it can lead to plumbing or sewer problems and clog local waterways.
Fat and grease left over from routine pan frying can be disposed of with other residential garbage if handled properly. Just pour the grease into a container that has a lid, let it cool, and place it in the trash. That keeps it out of local waterways and sewers.
Louisville’s three staffed recycling centers accept household cooking oil left over from deep frying. It’s free and easy for residents of Louisville and Jefferson County. Residents should first let the oil cool, then strain out food particles and pour the oil into a container that has a lid. Take it to the nearest full-service recycling center and hand it to a staff member. The oil is recycled for use in biodiesel fuel.
