Greetings District 8!
Welcome to our November Newsletter. As I have spent the last several months walking door to door, one of the questions people kept asking me is "why would you want this job?"
The answer is simple, "if only crazy people get involved in politics, we cannot be surprised if our politics is crazy."
My background as a non-profit and business CEO has allowed me to spend a lot of time at the intersection of innovation and execution. I took this job because I am passionate about going beyond words to concrete and measurable actions. I am passionate about translating progressive values into viable financial models that let us provide the city services our citizens deserve and should expect.
Below is an outline of what we are working on and what we are hearing. I am proud of what we have accomplished in a such short period of time.
And I fully recognize it is not enough. For those who have been pushing, rightly, for more investment in homeless services, violence prevention, neighborhood preservation, we hear you and we are working both hard and smart to get real solutions. These problems did not arise overnight, nor will they be fixed overnight. But attempting to fix them is the "why" of why would I want this job.
And I want to do it with good humor and joy. So, if you get to the bottom of this newsletter, you'll see the punchline to this joke, "Why did the Lemon get kicked out the chorus?"
Stay tuned for upcoming community events, town hall meetings, and opportunities for engagement. I am excited to hear your thoughts and work with you to make our district an even better place to live, work, and play.
