Kroger Wild Winter Days Discounted Admission and Food Drive for Dare to Care Food Bank

The Louisville Zoo is celebrating Wild Winter Days presented by Kroger now through Feb. 29, 2024. Wild Winter Days offers Zoo guests discounted Zoo and incorporates a food drive for Dare to Care Food Bank. Guests who bring at least one non-perishable food item per person may purchase discounted tickets at the Zoo ticket windows for $10 per adult and $7 per child/senior ticket. Twenty-five cents of every admission will also support conservation efforts of the Louisville Zoo. Since this partnership began in 2009, the Zoo has collected nearly 30,000 pounds of food thanks to the generosity of its guests. That is the weight of nearly five male rhinoceros! The discount is available at the gate only and is not valid for online purchases. The offer is not valid for special fee-based programs, for prepaid groups, field trips or with other discounts. No refunds will be provided for tickets prepaid in advanced or purchase online. Multiple canned good items per person are appreciated, but only one discount is per ticket sold. Some of Dare to Care Food Bank’s most needed items include canned meats like tuna and chicken, as well as canned fruit, beans, peanut butter, soup, rice, cereal, fruit juice, pasta and canned vegetables. Please avoid glass containers. More details on items of need are available at daretocare.org. Zoo Hours The Zoo is open daily year-round. Fall/winter hours are 10 a.m. ─ 4 p.m. (stay until 5 p.m.). The Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Metro Fall Leaf Drop-Off Site Opening Soon!

Fall Leaves Mowing over leaves to mulch them back into your lawn is a great option for reducing waste. Mulching not only returns vital nutrients to the soil, but experts say that it can help your grass grow even better the following year! Never blow leaves into the street! If you see Street Sweeping signs posted on your street, please make sure to move your vehicle so any leaves that fell naturally on the street can be properly cleaned.  ALSO: MSD asks if you see a catch basin covered in front of your home or near by please collect them/clear it! That will assist in proper drainage. Leaf Drop-Off Sites The Metro Public Works free leaf drop-off sites will be open Tuesday-Saturdays, November 7 through December 9. Drop-off will not be available on November 23 and 24 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Only leaves will be accepted. Leaves can be loose, in paper/compostable bags, or reusable containers. Containers used to bring leaves to the drop-off sites must be taken back by residents. Volunteers Needed at Hildegard House - register for training

Join our community of compassionate volunteers at Hildegard House. We provide a home and compassionate care for individuals at the end of life who have no home or loved ones to care for them so that they may die with dignity and access hospice care. We are the family for our residents and care for them just like family members. Compassionate Companions commit to a weekly 5-hour shift. The next volunteer training is Friday, November 10, 6-8pm and Saturday, November 11th, 9 am to 4 pm. 10th Annual Week of Valor November 1st through 12th

Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Veterans Community Alliance of Louisville (VCAL) have released detailed information regarding the tenth annual Mayor’s Week of Valor – a series of events to honor and celebrate the contributions and sacrifices of active-duty military, veterans and their families.  

Coinciding with Veterans Day, the 2023 Mayor’s Week of Valor will feature a series of educational, patriotic, community or civic events Nov. 1 through Nov. 12, 2023.  

The Mayor’s Week of Valor is supported by the Veterans Community Alliance of Louisville (VCAL). VCAL is an initiative launched in 2014 by a group of young professionals participating in Leadership Louisville’s Ignite program in conjunction with Volunteers of America of Kentucky and Seven Counties Services. VCAL’s mission is to create an integrated network of support for veterans and their families by coordinating services, resources and initiatives to increase communication across organizational lines, enhance quality and delivery of services and promote veteran-friendly community relations in Louisville.
