NEW DISTRICT 20 INTERACTIVE ZONING MAP!

NEW DISTRICT 20 INTERACTIVE ZONING MAP!

Over the years many of you have requested an easier way to access zoning information in District 20 so we have come up with an interactive map that will allow you to click on the icons or search for proposed zoning plans around your address to see what is going on around you. Each icon over an address contains the project name, case number, address and applicant information with a direct link to Accela where you can download plans, applications or just read more about the case.

This is the only interactive zoning map for all of the 26 districts and contains 5 years of cases dating back to 10/1/2018. Some of the cases have been approved, denied or are currently ongoing but I felt that it was important to share this tool with the residents of District 20. As always, if you have questions or you are interested in learning about a case that is older please don't hesitate to reach out to me at 502-574-1120 or stuart.benson@louisvilleky.gov.

Fall Leaf Drop-Off Coming Soon!

Fall Leaves

Mowing over leaves to mulch them back into your lawn is a great option for reducing waste. Mulching not only returns vital nutrients to the soil, but experts say that it can help your grass grow even better the following year!

Never blow leaves into the street! If you see Street Sweeping signs posted on your street, please make sure to move your vehicle so any leaves that fell naturally on the street can be properly cleaned.

Leaf Drop-Off Sites

The Metro Public Works free leaf drop-off sites will be open Tuesday-Saturdays, November 7 through December 9. Drop-off will not be available on November 23 and 24 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Only leaves will be accepted. Leaves can be loose, in paper/compostable bags, or reusable containers. Containers used to bring leaves to the drop-off sites must be taken back by residents.

Locations and hours starting Tuesday, November 7:

  • Public Works Yard, 10500 Lower River Road (enter from Bethany Lane)

Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • Public Works East District Operations Center, 595 N Hubbards Lane

Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • Shawnee Park, 230 Southwestern Parkway (Athletic Complex)

Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • Waste Reduction Center, 636 Meriwether Avenue

Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

New Recycling Drop-Off Location on Aiken Road

The Department of Public Works and the Waste Management District maintain 14 unstaffed recycling locations, 3 staffed recycling locations, and a household hazardous waste drop-off location. All locations can be seen on this map, Map of Recycling Locations in Louisville | LouisvilleKY.gov. Most unstaffed locations now use the new style of dumpster to prevent losing recycling due to illegal dumping, which has shown success at other locations.

Important Reminders:

  • Recycle paper, cartons, plastic containers, glass bottles and jars, and metal containers.
  • Flatten all cardboard and crush containers when possible. This conserves space for more recycling.
  • Never purposely place items on the ground and please pick up any items that accidentally fall on the ground. Help us keep the site clean!
  • Take note of the openings for inserting recyclables - bring recycling in a container that can be "poured" into that slot.

Plastic pollution solutions in The Ville Forum

December forum will show how you can help create less plastic and more renewable energy Louisville’s on the move to reduce plastic pollution and increase renewable energy. You can find out how to keep that progress moving at a virtual forum December 6. The event, titled “REAL Good News” will hold its 12th in a series of quarterly public Zoom meetings aimed at making sure Louisville implements its green energy goals.

In 2020 the Metro Council passed a resolution to move the city’s operations to 100% clean renewable electricity by 2030. That resolution also sets a goal of 100% clean energy for the entire Louisville community by 2040. December’s event will focus on initiatives that are underway to reduce single-use plastics in Louisville. There will also be an update of progress being made toward using renewable energy as the city expands its sustainability programs. Speakers will include Pam Raidt with Beyond Plastics Louisville; Sumedha Rao, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability; and Betsy Ruhe, District 21 Metro Council Representative.

Music by Louisville musician and activist John Gage will open and close the event. The event will also show how you can attend Metro Council meetings to speak in favor of implementing Louisville's clean energy resolution. The REAL Good News event will run from 7 to 8:30 December 6.

The three sponsoring organizations are 100%REAL, Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light, and the Christian Action group of St. Paul United Methodist Church. The event is free but registration is required. Here’s the url for the Zoom link to register:
