The inaugural Mayor's Southwest Fun Run takes place this Saturday at the Farnsley-Moremen Landing. The 5K Fun Run is open to both runners and walkers. 

The 5K scenic loop will take runners and walkers on a journey from the Farnsley-Moremen Visitors Center, along Chapel Road passing the beautiful Moremen family chapel, continuing on the Louisville Loop towards Mike Linnig's before returning to the Visitors Center. 

Day-of registration and packet pick-up will be Saturday morning beginning at 6:30 a.m. The Fun Run will begin promptly at 8 a.m. following a welcome message from Mayor Craig Greenberg. 

Water stations will be set up at both the beginning of the course and at the halfway point of the course. Thank you, Louisville Water Company for supplying cups and coolers for the participants. Following the 5K, runners and walkers are invited to enjoy the awards ceremony as well as donuts and fruit! 

After the Fun Run, participants are encouraged to head over to the Southwest Community Festival for a day of free, family fun and celebrating all that South Louisville has to offer! The festival starts at 10 a.m. at Sun Valley Park and goes until 6 p.m.

The money raised through registration for the Fun Run will go toward the repairs and rebuild of the David Armstrong Pavilion. Following July's fire which resulted in a total loss of the pavilion, Councilwoman Cindi Fowler and Deputy Mayor Nicole George joined forces under Mayor Greenberg's direction to organize the Mayor's Southwest Fun Run.  

A portion of net race proceeds will be given to the Farnsley-Moremen Landing following the Fun Run. 

The fireplace is all that remains of the David Armstrong Pavilion following the crew's cleanup of the damage (pictured above right). The open-air pavilion served as a space for Louisvillians to gather with family and friends near the Ohio River.

Registration is $25 per person and includes your time-chipped race bib and inaugural Mayor's Southwest Fun Run t-shirt! Participants will be able to register up until 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
