The excitement begins bright and early with the Mayor’s Southwest Louisville Fun Run, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at The Farnsley-Moremen Landing, located at 7410 Moorman Road. The scenic 5k route will start and finish near the Visitor’s Center, promising a beautiful run down the Louisville Loop and back. The cost to register is $25 and includes a race bib and inaugural t-shirt! A portion of the proceeds will support The Farnsley-Moremen Landing. Fall Community-Wide Cleanup 2023 Registration is now OPEN! The Brightside Fall Community-Wide Cleanup is happening Saturday, October 21st! Be a part of this city-wide event to keep Louisville looking bright and beautiful. Check out their website to register. They encourage all residents to make a difference by taking part in the Community-Wide Cleanup-- it is a great service opportunity for boy/girl scouts, sports teams, faith groups, community organizations, and corporate teams.  Cleanups are an integral part of Brightside's mission and without the help of volunteer groups, and many other volunteers throughout the year, Brightside could not achieve our goals of a cleaner, greener Louisville. Neighborhoods can hold their own cleanups at any point throughout the year and they can provide gloves and bags for each Neighborhood Cleanup. They will work with Solid Waste Management to have the collected litter bags picked up. Give them a call at (502) 574-2613 or register online about two weeks prior to your event to schedule your cleanup and for information about getting supplies.

Louisville Downtown Partnership is spreading the word for their inaugural Small Business Saturday Vendor Fair. The vendor fair will be taking place on Saturday, November 25 from 10am – 3 pm at the Louisville Marriott Downtown (280 West Jefferson Street Louisville, KY 40202). At this event, they will provide 1- 6 ft table and 2 chairs per vendor and all entrepreneurs are welcomed.

They ask all vendors to submit their COI (certificate of insurance) to participate as a vendor for this event. Those who are in the food / beverage industry all goods must be sealed (prepackaged) and their food/ beverage permit must be submitted in addition to their COI. All documentation can be sent to Taylore Bass (tbass@louisvilledowntown.org).

LMPD Crime Tips

Here are some established measures you can take to safeguard your home.

• Install deadbolts on your doors
• Draw the curtains/blinds at night
• Install motion sensor lights outside
• Install a peephole in your door
• Install a home security system
• Install a home security camera such as Ring or SimpliSafe

Home security camera systems are quite popular these days. It’s not clear if they deter crime but they certainly provide the potential for good leads. Home installed cameras have helped LMPD solve hundreds, and possibly more crimes over the years. LMPD can’t recommend a particular brand, but they can recommend looking into one if you don’t already have one.

TARC changes popular Dixie Highway route to give riders access to hospitals, schools. TARC is re-routing one of its popular buses around Dixie Highway and Louisville's west end. The new route for the Dixie Highway bus is opening access for some riders to some essential stops at places like hospitals and schools. My Louisville Home is a comprehensive housing strategy that aims to create and preserve 15,000 affordable housing units unveiled by Mayor Craig Greenberg on Oct. 2, 2023. This strategy, the first of its kind in Louisville, outlines significant investment and policy actions by Louisville Metro Government to spur housing development across the city.

Louisville Metro Animal Services Teams Up with BISSELL Pet Foundation to “Empty the Shelters”

With animal shelters across the nation facing an overcrowding crisis, thousands of highly adoptable pets are waiting for their second chances. Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) is proud to partner with BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, for its Fall National “Empty the Shelters.” From Oct. 1 - 15, BISSELL Pet Foundation will sponsor reduced adoption fees of $50 or less at more than 345 shelters in 42 states.

LMAS will participate in Empty The Shelters from Sunday, Oct. 1^st through Sunday, Oct. 15^th offering waived adoption fees for all pets!

FULL TIME JOB OPPORTUNTIES

MetroSafe, the city’s 911 hub, is seeking to train and hire its next generation of 911 Telecommunicators. 911 Call Takers and Dispatchers are the first first responders when an emergency strikes. MetroSafe today announced applications are being accepted for the upcoming training academy.

911 Telecommunications is a public safety position that involves taking critical 911 calls from the public, which includes calls such as cardiac arrests of persons including children and infants, working fires with victims trapped inside, shootings and auto accidents.

After the application period, trainees will be selected to go through a 180-hour, paid training academy held primarily during daytime hours (8:00am – 4:00pm). Trainees receive $22.31/hour for the duration of the training. The hiring process includes a civil service testing, a criminal background check, a panel interview and job shadow, and suitability training. Upon successful completion, trainees will be granted full-time employment with MetroSafe starting at $24.48/hour for Call Takers or $27.25 for Dispatchers and will be paired with a trainer who will instruct and monitor the trainee’s progress.

Louisville Metro offers an $8,000 public safety hiring incentive paid in installments upon hiring. Additionally, MetroSafe trainees and employees have access to an on-staff licensed clinical professional counselor for voluntary trauma-focused therapy and access to a gym with equipment donated by Planet Fitness.

No prior experience in public safety is needed. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, have a high school diploma or equivalent and not been convicted of a felony. High school seniors who are at least 18 years of age and anticipating graduation in 2023 are welcome to apply. To be eligible for the academy, applicants must also pass a pre-employment drug screening and a polygraph test.
