Hikes Lane and Downing Avenue intersection to be closed today through October 9

Starting today and running until Monday, October 9, the Hikes Lane and Downing Avenue intersection will be closed for construction. Traffic will be detoured to Chevy Chase Road as seen in the map below.

About the Hikes Lane Pavement Rehabilitation project

The federally funded project mostly includes repairing/replacing concrete pavement, improving curb ramps and sidewalks to make them ADA compliant. Construction costs are estimated to be $7,000,000. Work on the 2.7-mile corridor is anticipated to be completed by late October.

The neighborhoods of Audubon Ridge, Avondale Melbourne Heights, Bashford Manor, Bon Air, Breckinridge Orchard, Buechel, Buechel Terrace, Camp Zachary Taylor, Chevy Chase, Fincastle, George Rogers Clark Park, Glenafton, Hawthorne Hill, Kensington, Klondike, North Audubon, Oak Hill, Petersburg Estates and Tyler Park along with the suburban cities of Audubon Park, Parkway Village, Watterson Park and West Buechel make up the district, which is also the home of the Louisville Zoo, Joe Creason Park, the Louisville Tennis Center, the Louisville Nature Center, George Rogers Clark Park, Buechel Park and the Cyril Allgeier Community Center.
