Fall Town Hall with Councilman Jecorey Arthur
Please save the date for a town hall with Councilman Jecorey Arthur, the Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, Public Works, the Homeless Services Division, the Louisville Metro Police Department, and Codes and Regulations on Sunday, October 1, 2023 3-4:30 PM at the Main Library, 301 York Street in the Centennial Room in the basement of the north building. California Neighborhood Community Meeting
All residents in the California Neighborhood are invited to a community meeting with Councilman Jecorey Arthur on Thursday October 5th, 2023 6-7 PM to discuss needs for the park and community center. The meeting will be at the California Community Center in the Senior Room, 1600 St Catherine St.

Legislation
- Anti-Displacement Ordinance — This ordinance will help prevent displacement by creating a displacement index to be used for new city-supported developments. To show support, sign the petition here. It was first debated in the Planning and Zoning Committee on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
- Right to Shelter Ordinance — This will create more shelter space for people experiencing houselessness. To show support, sign the petition here.
- FY24 District 4 Sidewalk Repairs — Louisville Metro Council District 4 has about a million dollars worth of unfunded sidewalk repairs. Councilman Jecorey Arthur is paying for repairs through the Capital Infrastructure Fund (CIF). To review the order of repairs please go here.
- Capital Infrastructure Funds — Councilman Jecorey Arthur is funding new trash cans throughout District 4. If you notice an area in need of one, please contact brianna.wright@louisvilleky.gov or call (502)574-1104 by Friday, October 6.

Councilwoman Hawkins Encourages Community to Attend Parkland Day
Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins (D-1) invites the community to attend Parkland Day’s 3rd Annual Celebration in District 1 this weekend. The celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. It’s taking place on 28th Street, between Dumesnil Street and Virginia Avenue. To learn more, click here.
Harm Reduction Efforts at Louisville Metro Department of Corrections (LMDC) Prevent Overdose Deaths
The Louisville Metro Department of Corrections (LMDC) has added another harm reduction measure to prevent fatal overdoses. A vending machine filled with free naloxone, more commonly known as Narcan, is now in the jail's exit lobby. People leaving LMDC can access the overdose reversal medication that has already saved lives within the correctional facility. To learn more, click here.
Air Pollution Control District Proposed Permit
The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to renew a FEDOOP operating permit for Atkemix Ten Incorporated – Louisville, 6100 Camp Ground Road, Louisville, 40216, in accordance with Regulation 2.17. The industrial facility was removed in the past. This permit is for the soil and groundwater remediation project on the site. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) vapors are pulled from the soil with a significant portion controlled by a carbon adsorption system. The 30-day public comment period starts on September 18, 2023 and ends on October 18, 2023. A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07. To learn more, click here.
Construction on Updated Sports Complex at Iroquois Park to Begin Next Week
Upgrades to the tennis court area at Iroquois Park will begin Monday, September 18. The four tennis courts residing at Iroquois Park will close indefinitely on Monday, September 18, as construction on a new set of sports courts is set to begin. The project will replace the tennis courts currently in the park with four pickleball courts, two new tennis courts and a futsal court. To learn more, click here.
Family S.T.E.A.M. Day Returns to the South Central Regional Library
The Louisville Free Public Library’s annual Family S.T.E.A.M. Day returns to the South Central Regional Library, 7300 Jefferson Boulevard, on Saturday, September 30, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. This FREE family-friendly event offers amazing presentations and hands-on activities to get kids excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Land Development Code Reform
The Land Development Code (LDC) is a set of rules and laws that defines how land can be used, how a development such as a new shopping mall or apartment must be designed, and the procedures for approval. The LDC Reform is an equity focused approach to revise the LDC consistently with Plan 2040 to allow for increased housing choices and opportunities in new and existing neighborhoods, to create procedures and regulations that are easier to use, and increase the quality of life by reducing the concentration of environmental hazards near housing.
Work to reform the LDC began in the summer of 2020. Initial recommendations, including accessory dwelling units, notification procedures, and urban agriculture were all adopted within the first year. The work continues and we encourage you to participate!

United Neighborhoods: California Neighborhood Investment Inquiry Form
Metro United Way (MUW) is embracing a powerful resident-driven, and asset-based approach to promote neighborhood advancement—United Neighborhoods. This place-based approach identifies organized residents at its foundation for transformative change alongside investments in assets for transformative change. The California Neighborhood is the first neighborhood in this approach. A Neighborhood Asset is a resource that enhances the well-being, development, and resilience of a community. MUW has an Inquiry Form that is provided for you to fill out for two purposes, 1) To identify neighborhood assets 2) To identify any projects, initiatives, programs, activities, etc you have or plan to have to expand and/or develop assets. The deadline to complete the Inquiry Form is Friday, September 29 at 4pm. There will be a United Neighborhoods Meeting at Metro United Way (334 E Broadway) October 2, 4pm-6pm.
