We are studying options to reduce congestion and increase access in the area.
This study is exploring a potential new interchange on I-64 between the Gene Snyder and KY 1848 (Buck Creek Road) near the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass. Potential routes connecting a new I-64 interchange to US 60 (Shelbyville Road) to the north and KY 155/KY 148 (Taylorsville Road) to the south will also be examined.

On March 28, 2022, Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS on Urton Lane decided they could no longer host the self-service recycling center. The fire department needed the surface for training activities and parking. As disappointed as I was to learn of losing such a convenient recycling location, I truly understand and respect the station’s decision. I also appreciate the station’s partnership in the past that allow the City to place recycling dumpsters on their property.
After the announcement of the closure, many of you have contacted me requesting to find another location. I immediately began working with Public Works and quickly learned that the criteria for such a site limited our options. The type of site we are searching for must handle up to 300-400 vehicles per day, be accessible 24 hours a day and 365 days a year and be at least 60’ wide and long enough for up to 12 front load dumpsters. Most importantly, the location must be free from vehicle parking during the day so crews could empty them at night, which means it must be well away from homes due to noise. Another criteria of mine was to find a parcel close to Urton Lane where most people found to be convenient. Many of you submitted locations that we investigated; however, most either did not meet our requirements or was simple not available. Nonetheless, your suggestions were very helpful! Thank you!
The good news is that we found a new location! Public Works has entered into a lease agreement with the property owner of 13312 Aiken Road. I, along with my colleagues, have secured funding in the amount of $100,000 for infrastructure that includes a drive and parking lot to place the dumpsters. Public Works is in the process of seeking approvals from Planning & Design and MSD Site Disturbance Permit. Although a completion date cannot be provided at this time, I am pleased to announce the project is moving forward.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has issued a competitive NOFO titled Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) for the purpose of providing grant funding for the identification and removal of barriers to affordable housing production and preservation. Eligible applicants are local and state governments, metropolitan planning organizations, and multijurisdictional entities. Grantees may receive up to $10 Million to further develop, evaluate, and implement housing policy plans, improve housing strategies, and facilitate affordable housing production and preservation. The Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Government Office of Housing and Community Development is leading the effort and is working in conjunction with the Office of Planning to apply for the funding.
As part of this application process, the Office of Housing and Community Development is seeking feedback from stakeholders on the barriers they see in their communities in the production of affordable housing. This survey will be open to take responses for 10 days. This is a great opportunity to help shape the goals of the application. Further, a public hearing will occur in October to solicit feedback on the draft application. Thank you for your participation!
