Vaccine Catch-Up
Every JCPS student is required by the state of Kentucky to have a current immunizations certificate on file within two weeks after starting school. If your child isn’t up to date on vaccines, Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness can help.
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness provides vaccines for individuals aged 2-months or older, including adults. We also provide vaccines to people without insurance or a medical home, as well as for children whose insurance or doctor does not cover vaccines. We also accept most insurance plans. There is a $10 administration fee for each vaccine, but no one will be turned away if they are unable to pay.
Vaccines are given by appointment at our Newburg and Dixie clinics. Our Newburg clinic will remain open until 7 p.m. every Tuesday for the next four weeks.
If you have questions about health requirements for JCPS students, call 502-485-3387. To make a vaccine appointment at one of our clinics, call 502-574-6530. Language assistance is available.
 Mosquito Prevention
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) has found mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus in surveillance traps in the Iroquois area. To help prevent infection and reduce the mosquito population, mosquito fogging will take place this week in the 40214 ZIP code.
So far this year, no confirmed human cases of West Nile have been reported in Jefferson County.
In most instances, people infected with West Nile virus either show no symptoms or relatively mild symptoms. However, less than 1% of infected people develop a serious neurologic illness such as encephalitis or meningitis. Serious illness can occur in people of any age. However, people over 60 years of age are at the greatest risk for severe disease. People with certain medical conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease and people who have received organ transplants are at greater risk for serious illness.
Avoid mosquito bites
- Use insect repellents when you go outdoors. Repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535 and some oil of lemon eucalyptus and para-menthane-diol products provide longer-lasting protection. To optimize safety and effectiveness, repellents should be used according to the label instructions.
- When weather permits, wear long sleeves, long pants and socks when outdoors. Mosquitoes may bite through thin clothing, so spraying clothes with a repellent containing permethrin or another EPA-registered repellent will give you extra protection. Don't apply repellents containing permethrin directly to your skin. Do not spray repellents on the skin under your clothing.
- Take extra care during peak mosquito biting hours of early morning and dusk. Be sure to use repellent and wear protective clothing from dusk to dawn or consider avoiding outdoor activities during these times.
Prevent mosquito breeding grounds
- Install or repair screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitos outside.
- Help reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home by emptying standing water from flowerpots, gutters, buckets, pool covers, pet water dishes, discarded tires and draining birdbaths on a regular basis.
To check if your area will be fogged, visit the department’s website or call the mosquito hotline, 502-574-6641. To make a complaint about mosquitos in your neighborhood, call Metro311 by dialing 311 or 502-574-5000.

Louisville Metro issues Request for Proposals for Community Care Campus
Louisville Metro Government has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking one or more entities to transform the properties at Brook and Breckinridge streets, known as the Community Care Campus, into a central location for unhoused residents to stabilize and access services and housing.
The Community Care Campus will address a critical gap in the care of those experiencing homelessness by providing medical respite care to reduce hospital readmissions and assist with the transition to temporary or permanent housing. Other priorities for the site are: family overnight shelter and services, services supporting dually-diagnosed persons, and permanent affordable housing.
RFP respondents should have the capacity to operate and demonstrated experience in managing the development process, including programming and long-term operations at the Community Care Campus. Louisville Metro Government (LMG) may select one or more entities to handle overall site management, offer a specific service or operation in a specific building on the site, or offer a specific service or operation across the entire site. LMG will provide a long-term lease for the property to the successful respondent or respondents.
Completed responses should include a detailed narrative of services, target populations, experience serving those populations, expected outcomes and clients served, details of how the respondent will work with others on the site, a development plan that is compatible with the neighborhood, a project timeline, preliminary drawings, and finance and operating budgets.
Responses are due by 3 p.m. on Friday, August 11. The full RFP requirements can be viewed at https://louisvilleky.bonfirehub.com/portal. LMG will hold a pre-response meeting on Tuesday July 18, at 2 p.m. at 225 E. Breckinridge St.; respondents are required to attend.
