The APCD is now offering limited access to its Cannons Lane Air Monitoring Site for the use of a new Air Sensor Collocation Shelter. This allows members of the public to site their own air sensors alongside equipment in APCD's air monitoring network.
Air sensors that are smaller in size, easier to operate, and less expensive than than equipment used in regulatory air monitoring networks are becoming more prevalent. These sensors can support local air quality research and analysis, science education, and leak detection and emergency response at industrial facilities. Their relative affordability also allows air quality data to be collected in more places and by more users.

Despite their many uses, there are limitations associated with low-cost sensors. The methods and equipment used at regulatory air monitoring networks are strictly regulated by EPA and standardized at monitoring sites across the country. Operating low-cost air sensors alongside regulatory equipment allows for data comparison and analysis that will provide information on sensor precision and accuracy and support sensor development. More information on air sensors and APCD air sensor projects can be found on our new Air Sensor webpage.
Members of the public must apply to use the collocation shelter and all access to the site must be conducted under the supervision of APCD personnel. More on the application process and requirements of collocation shelter participants can be found in the application form below.
