I-71 Lane Closures for Bridge Overlay Project in Jefferson County

Bridge deck overlay with lane closure

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 21, 2023) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of an upcoming project involving lane closures on Interstate 71 at the bridges over U.S. 42 (mile point 6.24) in Jefferson County. Contract crews will remove the concrete-wearing surface and replace it with a latex overlay. This treatment will extend the life of the structure and will improve the roadway’s drivability.

The lane closures are scheduled for the following weekends:

  • Northbound left lane: Friday, July 28, at 9 p.m. and continue through Monday, July 31, at 5 a.m.
  • Northbound right lane: Friday, August 4, at 9 p.m. and continue through Monday, August 7, at 5 a.m.

This type of work relies highly on suitable weather conditions, so the schedule may be adjusted as needed.
