Hikes Lane Rehabilitation entered Phase 4 on July 5th. Please consult the updated detour information is below.
Hikes Lane is undergoing a multi-month rehabilitation project, which may be completed in Oct 2023. Expect delays and detours as we repair and replace many of the concrete slabs that make up this connective roadway. We will try to keep you updated on closures as we are made aware of them.

After hearing from residents along Six Mile Lane that they would prefer adopting a Quiet Zone at one of the railroad crossings long Six Mile Lane, we met with representatives of Norfolk Southern, Louisville Metro Government, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, and Federal Dept. of Transportation to survey the site and hear recommendations to make it applicable for a Quiet Zone.
We filed the report this spring with Norfolk Southern and they have agreed to move forward toward making that request a reality. It is entirely up to them to approve and abide by the rules regarding a Quiet Zone. Railroad property is one area of land development and regulation that neither the City nor the State can do much to regulate.
We are doing what we can to move the process along and will update you and your family as new milestones are passed in this months-long journey. We appreciate Norfolk Southern working with us to make this a reality.
Metro Council has directed Planning & Design Services (PDS) and the Planning Commission to carry out a review of the local ordinances concerning short term rentals (STRs) and recommend improvements. The STR regulations were first adopted in 2016 and last updated in 2019. The recommended improvements address community feedback received since the 2019 update and issues encountered by staff in administering the regulations. The recommendations provided on this webpage are preliminary and subject to change upon review of additional public input. To be effective, any changes must be approved by Metro Council (or by a council or commission of city with zoning authority).
The public hearing date is formally set – Monday, July 17, 2023 at 5:30PM.

 The next Pop-Up Drop-Off event will be on Saturday, July 22, 10am - 2 pm, at Metro Fleet Services, 3515 Newburg Rd. These events are for disposal of large household items and prescription medication, recycling of electronics, tires, metal, household recycling, and document shredding, and composting of bundled yard waste.
Center For Neighborhoods is now accepting applications for the Fall 2023 Neighborhood Institute!
The Neighborhood Institute is a leadership education program designed to equip neighborhood leaders with the skills and resources needed to initiate positive change in the community through their neighborhood, homeowner, and condo associations. Classes meet every Tuesday, 6:00 - 8:00PM at Center For Neighborhoods Offices (1126 Berry Blvd. Suite 300), for 11 consecutive weeks (August 8th, 2023 – October 24th, 2023), followed by a Graduation Celebration. Dinner is provided each week. There is no charge to attend, but space is limited, and advance registration is required. Applications will be accepted through 5:00PM on August 4th, 2023.
The Lucille Leggett Neighborhood Institute Spring 2023 is open to all neighborhoods, Metro Council Districts, and the whole community.

The YES! Youth Cabinet is a one-year advisory board to the Mayor and Metro Council. Youth ages 16-24, who are invested in preventing youth violence have an opportunity to learn to increase advocacy skills, be more civically engaged in their communities, and give insight on issues that impact our city.

TARC has an exciting update to the 2023 Summer Youth Pass. Thanks to a new partnership with Mayor Craig Greenberg and Louisville Metro, youth – and one accompanying adult legal guardian – will now be able to ride transit without cost through August 31.
What is the cost?
- The Summer Youth Pass and Companion Pass for one adult legal guardian now comes at no cost to participants. This is thanks to the partnership of Louisville Metro and Mayor Craig Greenberg’s administration who are sponsoring the expanded passes for the summer.
What ages can participate in the Summer Youth Pass?
- Students aged 6-19 are eligible for the Summer Youth Pass. To ensure that families are able to take advantage of summer activities together, one adult legal guardian will be eligible for a Companion Pass, also free of charge, good for unlimited travel until August 31.
What do I need to participate?
- Students will need a current, reloadable MyTARC student-ID. Adults will need a MyTarc card and must be with the eligible student at the time they obtain the pass.
Where can I obtain my pass?
- The Passes may be loaded to MyTarc student-ID cards or regular MyTarc cards (for adults) at TARC Union Station (1000 West Broadway). To be eligible for the pass, adult legal guardians must be with the eligible student at the time they obtain the Companion Pass.
What if I do not already have a reloadable MyTARC student-ID card?
- Cards must be purchased at Union Station, for $5. A photo will be taken for student-ID cards.
When is it available?
- Passes are now available at TARC’s 1000 West Broadway main offices!
What if I already purchased a $30 pass before the new partnership was announced?
- Students who previously purchased a pass will be eligible to receive $30 credit in stored value which can be used on their MyTarc cards after August 31, 2023.
Where can it be used?
- The Summer Youth Pass can be used as fare on any TARC fixed-route service from 6/1 to 8/31.
What about the express routes?
- Pass holders pay $1 for express routes – a $1.75 reduction from the normal $2.75 express fare.

The mission of the Community Policing Councils (CPC) is to advance constitutional policing through community oriented policing principles. The purpose of the CPCs is to work with LMPD and develop a comprehensive Community Oriented Policing approach that collaboratively identifies and implements strategies to address crime and safety issues.
Community policing concentrates on both preventing crime and eliminating the fear it creates. Community policing enables law enforcement to better understand both the needs of the community and the factors that contribute to crime.
A well-functioning police department actively works to build trust with the residents it protects and functions as a part of the community rather than isolate from it. Community policing cultivates trust when the public views officers as engaging fairly and respecting the rule of law. It also creates officers who value civil rights respect every member of the community equally and see their work as an investment in the community.
CPC meetings will engage in detailed and meaningful discussions to identify concerns, problems, successes, and opportunities for Community Policing within each police division. They will craft solutions specifically aimed at the needs of each neighborhood and police division to address the community’s concerns. Those solutions will become recommendations submitted directly to LMPD Administration for consideration. All concerns addressed by the community will be made available on the OIG’s website for public viewing, as well as any recommendations submitted to LMPD Administration.
Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services joins with Community Action Agencies across the state to begin accepting applications for the 2023 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Spring Subsidy Cooling Component. This federally funded program is designed to help offset the cost of higher electric bills due to rising temperatures. Applications will be accepted now through June 2 or until funds are depleted.
The LIHEAP Spring Subsidy component provides households a one-time benefit ranging from $38 to $200 depending on income levels and housing category. Residents can apply regardless of the status of their utility bills. The benefit amount is paid directly to the electricity vendor (i.e. LG&E).
