A FREE opportunity for young writers who are high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to report on creative endeavors evolving in the city’s community centers as part of the inaugural HeARTs initiative. Participants will:
- Discover and report on artists and activities that are part of the city's HeARTs programs.
- Receive mentorship from professional journalists, including a photographer. (Cameras will be made available.)
- Receive a certificate and gift cards upon completion.
- Have food provided during sessions. • Have final articles published in the local media.

 The Book Works is hosting FREE summer programs for youth (ages 13-21) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at the Beechmont Community Center. Programs are youth driven and focus on arts and advocacy.

 The YES! Youth Cabinet is a one-year advisory board to the Mayor and Metro Council. Youth ages 16-24, who are invested in preventing youth violence have an opportunity to learn to increase advocacy skills, be more civically engaged in their communities, and give insight on issues that impact our city.

- Leadership Development skills
- Learn collaborative/group processes
- Opportunity to meet leaders throughout government, community, faith, and corporate organizations

 TARC has an exciting update to the 2023 Summer Youth Pass. Thanks to a new partnership with Mayor Craig Greenberg and Louisville Metro, youth – and one accompanying adult legal guardian – will now be able to ride transit without cost through August 31.
What is the cost?
- The Summer Youth Pass and Companion Pass for one adult legal guardian now comes at no cost to participants. This is thanks to the partnership of Louisville Metro and Mayor Craig Greenberg’s administration who are sponsoring the expanded passes for the summer.
What ages can participate in the Summer Youth Pass?
- Students aged 6-19 are eligible for the Summer Youth Pass. To ensure that families are able to take advantage of summer activities together, one adult legal guardian will be eligible for a Companion Pass, also free of charge, good for unlimited travel until August 31.
What do I need to participate?
- Students will need a current, reloadable MyTARC student-ID. Adults will need a MyTarc card and must be with the eligible student at the time they obtain the pass.
Where can I obtain my pass?
- The Passes may be loaded to MyTarc student-ID cards or regular MyTarc cards (for adults) at TARC Union Station (1000 West Broadway). To be eligible for the pass, adult legal guardians must be with the eligible student at the time they obtain the Companion Pass.
What if I do not already have a reloadable MyTARC student-ID card?
- Cards must be purchased at Union Station, for $5. A photo will be taken for student-ID cards.
When is it available?
- Passes are now available at TARC’s 1000 West Broadway main offices!
What if I already purchased a $30 pass before the new partnership was announced?
- Students who previously purchased a pass will be eligible to receive $30 credit in stored value which can be used on their MyTarc cards after August 31, 2023.
Where can it be used?
- The Summer Youth Pass can be used as fare on any TARC fixed-route service from 6/1 to 8/31.
What about the express routes?
Pass holders pay $1 for express routes – a $1.75 reduction from the normal $2.75 express fare.
 Youth don't always know the words to express themselves. So, creating an outlet for expressive art and writings can support them as they discover how to describe their feelings - especially if they have experienced trauma.
This 12-week therapeutic art program is aimed to help youth ages 10 to 18 to better share their feelings, fears and thoughts in a relaxing, independent environment. It is free and conducted by youth professionals. Sessions at Beechmont Community Center on Tuesdays, 5 - 7 pm.

 Teens can participate in a FREE youth camp in partnership with Metro Louisville's Office of Safety Neighborhood Youth Engagement Services (YES!) division. The camp is specifically designed for youth ages 13-18.

Program Highlights: The youth camp will offer a wide range of programming aimed at self-discovery, personal development, and building essential life skills.
