Hello Neighbors and Friends,
The storm's remnants created quite a mess and left several residents devastated. The downpour of rain was one thing, but the heavy winds caused the most damage. Those winds were relentless. The aftermath was damaging. The inconvenience was upsetting. The relief was slow and troubling. District 7 was hit hard.
Many of you called my office to see what I could do to help with getting someone to your neighborhood or subdivision. It was a tough time for us, and I understood your anger and frustration. I was already on the scene to take pictures as evidence, and I spent two days on the phone after the dastardly storms speaking with representatives from Spectrum and LG&E about downed power lines and the Public Works Department about downed trees and debris that blocked roadways (see pics below of damaged trees and property).
I want to remind everyone that you have access to assistance at your fingertips when your area requires attention to storm debris, street repair, code violations, etc. Dial 311 to speak to a call center professional to report your issue. That center was designed specifically to assist with issues that the city needs to address. Metro311 is your first line of defense. However, if you call and report and issue and your issue is not resolved within 5 business days, that is when you should give my office a call. When I receive these calls, I often ask you if you have contacted Metro311. If you have not, I will take your information and do exactly what I'm asking you to do - Call Metro311. And even though you can rest assured that I will make that call on your behalf, you should also call Metro311, or submit your request online.
Here's How the Metro311 Service Request Works:

Only service requests for the past 30 days will be accessible in the system. If you need information on an older request, please call Metro 311 for status.

To receive email notifications of the status of your service request you must have an account and you must have included your email address when you created your account. You can create a new account and report a new issue.
- Not all issues you put a service request in for require you to login. Some issues may be submitted anonymously, such as reporting a pothole and property maintenance cases, for instance. But having an account will allow you to track the progress and status of the request.
- The outlined or highlighted area on the map indicates the area which is serviced by Louisville Metro Government.

At the last Muffins with McCraney neighborhood meeting, many of you asked about the proposed right sizing plans for Brownsboro Road. While the proposal is slightly outside of District 7, several of you often drive along that portion of Brownsboro Road, and you are understandably concerned.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Louisville Metro Develop Louisville, and several Metro Council members, will host a meeting about the plans to right size Brownsboro Road. The meeting will be held on Thursday July 6th at 5:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph’s Children’s Home dining hall. You can also review the plans and submit your feedback online by clicking the links below:

The public hearing date is formally set for Monday, July 17, 2023, at 5:30 PM
To participate online, please attend the meeting via Webex. Please note that if you opt to participate virtually, the meeting will proceed in the event of any technical issues or difficulties.
The current recommendations include:
- Amending the occupancy requirement from “host” to “owner”. This will affect only STRs on residentially zoned properties that do not have conditional use permits. It will prohibit an owner from assigning another party to be a host and avoid the conditional use permit process.
- Prohibiting a new STR registration on a property if a citation has been issued in the past 12 months for unlawful STR activity.
- Requiring an owner to live at a residence for at least six months before submitting an owner-occupied STR registration application.
- Restricting the maximum occupancy of adults to 12 if the maximum occupancy of all persons allows for 13 or more based on the number of bedrooms. The Board of Zoning Adjustment may further restrict the occupancy during a conditional use permit review.

You may have participated in health or exercise challenges before and know that the point of committing to these challenges is to change our habits. For example, in a health challenge, we make goals to exercise each day, get enough sleep, eat healthy food; the hope is that when the challenge is over, these things will become the new normal. That's what we want the ARC to do -- raise awareness, invoke commitment, and make being an anti-racist the new normal in our everyday lives.
To participate, we ask that you complete 3 anti-racism activities per week during a 4-week period. The ARC begins Saturday, July 1st, and then you will receive a weekly email each Friday through July with a list of 10-12 suggested anti-racism activities for you to choose from. These range from reading an article, calling an elected official, making a donation, watching a film by Black artists, patronizing a Black business, attending a rally, etc.

The Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods is seeking representatives to serve on the YES! Metro Youth Cabinet. The YES! Cabinet works with Louisville’s Mayor and Metro Council to offer advice on policy, community building, and equity in an effort to transform systems that prevent young people throughout our city from living healthy and happy lives.
Here are the requirements:
- Must be a Louisville, KY resident
- Must attend mandatory, bi-monthly meetings
- Must serve a minimum of one year

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of The Sandlot, The Play Forever Project is launching the “30 for the 30th” national fundraising campaign. This initiative aims to impact 30 communities nationwide through a combination of sports equipment, education, healthy food access, scholarship, gender equity programs, and restoration projects wherever we can have the most impact.
As part of 30 for the 30th, Play Forever will host a series of fundraisers nationwide with cast members from The Sandlot.
Waterfront Park is honored to host cast members of The Sandlot during their Play Forever Block Party Weekend in Louisville on July 3rd for a movie night on the Great Lawn. The venue opens at 6:30 p.m. then cast members from the Sandlot will introduce the movie before the 8 p.m. movie screening. Fireworks from the Ohio River will conclude the evening at (tentatively) 10 p.m.

Join Waterfront Park and the Louisville Orchestra on Tuesday, July 4th for the Waterfront Park Fourth of July celebration!
The celebration will include a concert by The Louisville Orchestra curated by Teddy Abrams, a variety of fun family activities and professional fireworks display over the Ohio River.
The Fourth of July celebration is a popular community tradition and hallmark event at Waterfront Park. Since its inception in 1998, hundreds of thousands of park visitors have enjoyed this free community celebration in the heart of Louisville. The partnership between Waterfront Park and The Louisville Orchestra will mark the first return of the orchestra to the celebration since 2021.
In addition to the concert and fireworks, more than a dozen community groups and organizations will come together to host a variety of family-friendly activities ahead of The Louisville Orchestra performance. Activities will range from instrument making, arts and crafts, dance lessons, boat building, ball juggling contests and more.

On January 1, 2019, a new Comprehensive Plan, called Plan 2040, went into effect. As a resident of District 7 (or any district in Louisville), it is important to review the Comprehensive Plan if you are interested in development that is proposed for the neighborhood. The Comprehensive Plan is the guidepost for all development, and the Planning Commission must use it as one of the guiding principles and tools for making decisions regarding the approval or denial of a neighborhood development project.

The Comprehensive Plan is representative of over 6,000 voices, including Metro staff, an advisory committee, and resident volunteers. The Advisory Committee, made up of diverse representatives from neighborhood and community organizations as well as development and business interests, finalized its recommended goals, objectives, and policies on February 21, 2018.
On April 16, 2018, the Planning Commission recommended the Comprehensive Plan for approval. The document was then reviewed by the Metro Council as well as 12 local municipalities with zoning authority for formal adoption. Those 12 local municipalities are: Anchorage, Douglass Hills, Graymoor-Devondale, Hurstbourne, Indian Hills, Jeffersontown, Lyndon, Middletown, Prospect, Shively, St. Matthews, and St. Regis Park.
