We're using Air Quality Awareness Week to increase air quality awareness and to encourage people to incorporate air quality knowledge into their daily life. Here's some information to get you started:
Where to access current air quality conditions and forecasts
Louisville Air Watch provides real-time air quality information for Louisville, including a live map of the air monitoring stations throughout the area. Each site operated by the APCD also has its own page with more detailed monitoring data.
Our Twitter and Facebook pages post a daily air quality forecast each morning along with air quality tips, updates, and meeting, hearing, and event announcements
The EPA's AirNow provides live air monitoring and an air quality forecast for a few days ahead of time. There is also an AirNow app that provides the AQI live directly to your phone.

How to get air quality alerts
If air pollution is forecast to be at levels that are unhealthy for sensitive groups or worse an air quality alert will be issued. The alerts will be sent out through our email list, posted on Twitter and Facebook, and broadcast on local weather forecasts.
How to get more detailed information on Louisville's air
Our website has a variety of resources on Louisville's air, including an air quality reports, dashboards, and data page that includes dashboards on odor investigations, emissions sources, and excess emissions event, as well as monthly air quality reports that are provided to the Air Pollution Control Board. Questions or ideas can always be sent to APCD staff.
Working together for cleaner air
This year's theme is "Working Together for Cleaner Air". How can our choices add up to cleaner air? Here are a few things to consider:
-
Businesses and facilities have significant potential to help our air. Our Air Quality Action Partners program encourages local businesses to take steps beyond what is required to improve air quality in Louisville and protect the health of their employees when an air quality alert is issued.
-
Hearing from residents helps our compliance officers investigate, address, and proactively monitor for air quality nuisances. If you're being bothered by odors, smoke, outdoor dust, or any other air quality nuisance make sure to send a report with as much information as you're able to share.
-
Every one of us can help the air and every bit makes a difference. Whether it means reducing vehicle emissions and being idle free, switching to electric lawn equipment, or using less household energy, we can all help reduce our impact on the air.
