One hour of mowing with a typical gas-powered lawnmower produces the same amount of air pollution as driving your car for 200 miles—enough to go from Louisville to Nashville. These emissions create pollution that is harmful to sensitive groups like children, elderly adults, and people with conditions like asthma.
The Lawn Care for Cleaner Air program encourages Louisville Metro residents to improve air quality by offering rebates when residents convert to lower-emitting equipment.
The original lawn equipment purchase receipt to qualify for a Standard Rebate without trade-in. Photocopies will not be accepted. Online purchases do not always come with a traditional receipt. We will accept the proof of purchase the online vendor provides.
The original notarized green voucher from the recycling center (if you recycled a used gas appliance for new eligible equipment to qualify for a Bonus Rebate. (Photocopies are not accepted.)
Proof of Metro Louisville / Jefferson County residency. (Photocopy of driver’s license or equivalent state ID.)
If you're a non-profit organization in Louisville/Jefferson County, you can apply to be awarded a new set of electric lawn equipment through our Lawn Care for Cleaner Air Community Equipment Grant Program. The most recent round of applications has closed and a recipient will be announced soon. The next round of applications should open in the spring.
If you have questions about the rebates or the equipment grant, please email us through this form or call us at (502) 574-6000.
The only thing more effective than replacing your equipment is replacing your lawn. If you're interested, check out our Grow More Mow Less program.
Our community has experienced a horrible and traumatic event. Whether it affected you directly or indirectly, it’s OK to not be OK. Mental health experts recommend one of the best things anyone can do at a time like this is to connect with others and talk about how they’re feeling. Don’t isolate yourself.
Amanda Villaveces, a licensed marriage and family counselor and director of Mental Health Lou, a community wellness hub, recently shared with us some ways you can connect with others and care for yourself at this time:
Therapy: A trained therapist can help you process your experiences and develop coping skills.
Support groups: Connecting with others who have experienced similar trauma can provide a sense of community and validation.
Self-care: Taking care of yourself physically and mentally is crucial in the healing process. Be gentle with yourself and practice self-compassion.
Education: Learning about trauma and its effects on the brain and body can help you better understand and manage your symptoms.

It is expensive to clean up, it negatively impacts our quality of life and economic development, and the plastic debris may end up in our waterways and oceans. Residents are encouraged to fill out this online form if they witness illegal dumping. The form can also be used to share home security camera footage or images of illegal dumping occurring with our Solid Waste Enforcement Department. Go to Louisvilleky.gov/IllegalDumping to learn more about how you can help prevent illegal dumping.
