Message From McCraney

m

Hello Neighbors and Friends,

It's a holiday weekend, celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people throughout the nation. Whatever your plans are for this weekend, I hope you enjoy yourself immensely. News outlets are predicting great weather and family gatherings are in the works. So, be sure to get out there and make this a fun and unforgettable holiday weekend.

I mentioned last week about something that has gotten under my skin. Well, it's still there! I planned to discuss it with you this week but realize now that this weekend is too precious to start with a Debbie Downer message. So, in the spirit of spring breaks, great weather, and family fun, I will save my rant for next week.

Warmest wishes to you and your family during this wonderful weekend and always.

Pothole Blitz Season

Pothole

Mayor Craig Greenberg joined Metro Public Works' Roads and Operations crews in celebrating the 2023 Pothole Blitz season, which features nine teams deployed every day throughout Metro Louisville to keep the roads in safe condition.

Metro makes pothole repairs year-round, averaging some 40,000 potholes per year. So far this year, Public Works has repaired more than 17,000 potholes, including those filled in the annual Blitz, a concentrated effort that began in March.

Residents have three ways to report a pothole:

  • By calling 311
  • On Twitter using #502pothole
  • On our website

The Department of Public Works & Assets is responsible for maintaining the city's infrastructure through road construction and maintenance, managing construction projects, transportation planning, snow removal, solid waste collection, and operation and maintenance of all of Metro’s traffic signals. The department has implemented a number of initiatives to ensure even safer and more efficient roadways, such as the annual Pothole Blitz and ongoing paving projects.

KIPDA Seeking Public Feedback

Volunteer at Waterfront Park

Waterfront

Did you know the Ohio River rises as many as 12 times per year? These river rises tend to happen more frequently in the spring when rainfall is more common. For example, rainfall earlier this month caused the river to rise five feet, causing lots of garbage and plastic debris to wash onshore. Whenever the river rises, our Maintenance Team goes to work clearing flood debris from park paths and quickly restoring the river’s edge as the water recedes. After all the plastic and garbage is picked up, our Landscape Team then comes in to deal with the large organic materials like sticks, trees and mud that also wash ashore during a river rise. While our Maintenance and Landscape teams do an excellent job, they always appreciate extra help whenever the river rises.

Helping with Waterfront Park flood restoration is easy and can be done any time you visit the park. The biggest way to contribute is by helping us properly dispose of the garbage and plastic debris that washes onshore. To do this, we recommend using a bucket and garbage pinchers, which our office has several available to use. Students and groups in need of service hours are also welcome. For more information or verification for service hours, click here.

Planet Savers can be any individual or group of two or more wishing to do better for wildlife and nature. Ideal Planet Savers participants are those that would like to celebrate the earth and all that depend on it through the creation of projects or activities to support planetary health. The Planet Savers program has no boundaries and emphasizes inclusion and engagement for all, providing additional ways the Louisville Zoo can be a resource for anyone wishing to connect with nature and animals in meaningful ways. Development Plan 2040

https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/KYLOUISVILLE/subscriber/new

On January 1, 2019, a new Comprehensive Plan, called Plan 2040, went into effect. As a resident of District 7 (or any district in Louisville), it is important to review the Comprehensive Plan if you are interested in development that is proposed for the neighborhood. The Comprehensive Plan is the guidepost for all development, and the Planning Commission must use it as one of the guiding principles and tools for making decisions regarding the approval or denial of a neighborhood development project.

Read The Comprehensive Plan (Plan 2040)

The Comprehensive Plan is representative of over 6,000 voices, including Metro staff, an advisory committee, and resident volunteers. The Advisory Committee, made up of diverse representatives from neighborhood and community organizations as well as development and business interests, finalized its recommended goals, objectives, and policies on February 21, 2018.

On April 16, 2018, the Planning Commission recommended the Comprehensive Plan for approval. The document was then reviewed by the Metro Council as well as 12 local municipalities with zoning authority for formal adoption. Those 12 local municipalities are: Anchorage, Douglass Hills, Graymoor-Devondale, Hurstbourne, Indian Hills, Jeffersontown, Lyndon, Middletown, Prospect, Shively, St. Matthews, and St. Regis Park.
