The APCD's Air Quality Action Partners (AQAPs) program is inviting businesses in Louisville to be "Air Quality Action Partners" and take voluntary steps that add up to healthier air and protect the health of their employees and the public.
To be an Air Quality Action Partner, businesses must sign up to receive Air Quality Alerts on days when air quality is expected to be unhealthy, distribute the alerts to employees, and make at least one additional commitment to improve air quality, like undertaking an energy efficiency project, installing idle free signage, or purchasing low-emission equipment.
Facilities and other businesses that are permitted or registered by the Air Pollution Control District must make two air-friendly commitments and may complete even more impactful commitments to be recognized as Platinum, Gold, or Silver Level partners.
AQAPs was created in 2021 and in the program's first year 23 partners followed through on commitments that ranged from prioritizing the purchase and use of lower emission vehicles to reducing emission generating activities on air quality alert days. Emissions avoided due to their actions totaled at least 80.2 tons of nitrogen oxides, 0.84 tons of particulate matter, and 29,529 tons of greenhouse gases. 35 facilities and businesses signed up for the second year of the program. Those that followed through on commitments will be recognized at the Air Pollution Control Board's monthly meeting in May.
In 2022, the AQAPs program was recognized as a Best Practice in Air Pollution Control by the Association of Air Pollution Control Agencies (AAPCA). Per AAPCA, this recognition identifies groundbreaking technology, innovative practices, and exemplary operations in the field of air pollution control.
All businesses are encouraged to review and sign up through our online sign-up form by April 30, 2023. While businesses may sign up after that date, the Air Quality Action Partners that sign up by the deadline will be announced at this May’s meeting of the Air Pollution Control Board, along with a recap and recognition of Platinum and Gold Level partners that followed through on 2022 commitments.
