Free Performance & Workshop

Please join Squallis Puppeteers and the Portland Museum in celebrating the Squallis 25th Anniversary Exhibition. The exhibit will close in April 2023, and to celebrate they are hosting a free puppet show and workshop event. The exhibit opens at noon and to encourage folks to come see the exhibit. Visitors can enjoy a free performance of our latest touring show “Mouse Tales” at 1:00pm. Come on out to see a fun family style puppet show. After the show, stay to make a finger puppet, have a snack, reminisce, and learn about the history of this Louisville institution. See puppets, props, relics and photos from two and a half decades of shows, events and collaborations. All are welcome. Free and open to the public (donations appreciated).

UPDATE: Storm Debris Drop-Off Sites

All seven storm debris drop-off will remain open 8:00am - 7:00pm through Friday, March 17. These sites are for residents of Jefferson County only.

Contractors and businesses who are hauling debris are invited to use the Waste Reduction Center for the usual fee. 

Guidelines

• Jefferson County residents only.
• Tree debris must be separated from bulky waste for easy off-loading. Mixed loads will not be accepted.
• Household hazardous waste will not be accepted.
• Sites open Tuesday, March 14 - Friday, March 17, 8:00am - 7:00pm.

Beginning Saturday, March 18, yard waste and storm debris will be accepted at the Waste Reduction Center for the usual fee and during the normal operating hours

Stop Illegal Dumping!

Illegally dumped trash is more than just an eyesore! It is expensive to clean up, it negatively impacts our quality of life and economic development, and the plastic debris may end up in our waterways and oceans. Individuals caught dumping illegally may have their vehicle impounded and face fines and fees totaling about $1,000. 

Residents are encouraged to fill out this online form if they witness illegal dumping. The form can also be used to share home security camera footage or images of illegal dumping occurring with our Solid Waste Enforcement Department. Go to Louisvilleky.gov/IllegalDumping to learn more about how you can help prevent illegal dumping. 

Did you know..? Many waste materials can be dropped off legally and for FREE. Up to three large household items, up to 4 passenger tires, and up to 3 electronics items can be dropped off for free at the at the Waste Reduction Center, located at 636 Meriwether Avenue. A pickup truckload of yard waste or construction debris can be disposed for only $60.00.

Residents can also utilize the free Pop-Up Drop-Off events that occur monthly, on a Saturday 10:00am - 2:00pm, March - November, in various parts of Jefferson County. April 15 - Brightside Community-Wide Cleanup days

The Brightside Community-Wide Spring Cleanup is set for Saturday, April 15, and the Fall Cleanup is set for Saturday, October 21. Registration for the April 15 date is now open. You can register online here. 

We encourage all residents to take part in Brightside's Community-Wide Cleanups. These events are a great service opportunity for boy/girl scouts, sports teams, faith groups and community organizations. It could also be a corporate team bonding opportunity! 

Cleanups are an integral part of Brightside's mission and without the help of volunteer groups, and many other volunteers throughout the year, Brightside could not achieve their goals of a cleaner, greener Louisville.

Neighborhoods can hold their own cleanups at any point throughout the year and Brightside can provide gloves and bags for each Neighborhood Cleanup. They will work with Solid Waste Management to have the collected litter bags picked up. Give Brightside a call at 574-2613 or register online about two weeks prior to your event to schedule your cleanup and for information about getting supplies.

TARC requesting public comment for proposed service changes to take effect in August

TARC is asking for the public to comment on changes being proposed to ten current routes. These changes are being suggested to improve route efficiency, and adjust service to areas where it is most needed.

TARC is proposing the below service adjustments to take place on August 6, 2023:

Routes 4 (Fourth Street), 6 (Sixth Street), 10 (Dixie Rapid), 18 (Dixie Highway), 72 (Clarksville), and 74 (Chamberlain Ln – River Ridge)

These proposed changes will improve service in the southwest area of the community, along Manslick Road, to St. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, JCTC Campus, and to Westport Road. Changes will reallocate duplicated service along the Dixie Corridor, already served by Dixie Rapid Route 10.

Routes 17X (Bardstown Road Express), 31X (Middletown Express), 40X (Jeffersontown Express), and 61X (Plainview Express)

Due to low ridership, Express Route 61X will be discontinued. Also, to be discontinued due to low ridership are the express trip portions only from Routes 17, 31, and 40. To improve morning peak service a local trip has been added to Route 40.

TARC is reviewing and analyzing proposed service changes to ensure this proposal does not create any disproportionate burden or disparate impact on low-income and minority populations in the TARC service area. Federally required Title VI evaluation will be developed to address any potential impact of these changes, and propose mitigation measures if required. Title VI evaluation and outcomes will be presented to the TARC Board of Directors for their review and approval.

Two open-house public meetings to discuss these changes in greater detail are scheduled to take place at Southwest Public Library, 4:00pm - 6:00pm on Tuesday, March 21, and at Union Station, 4:00pm - 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 22. Public comments regarding these changes will be accepted during the public comment period (through April 4) and may be submitted at Union Station (1000 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40203), during the public meeting at Southwest Public Library (9725 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272), or by email to: PublicComment@ridetarc.org.

All comments received will be considered and presented at the Board of Directors before service changes are finalized and implemented.

Most of District 12 to have Property Values Reassessed in 2023

The 2023 Jefferson County PVA property reassessment will encompass MLS areas 1 and 4. The reassessment is required by law. The Jefferson County PVA is committed to assisting property owners who exercise their right to appeal their property value. The 2023 reassessment covers a very dense area. It is with utmost importance the community is informed about their right to appeal their property value. In Kentucky there is a short window of time allowing the taxpayer to do so. PVA will be hosting online meetings in April for the areas affected by the 2023 reassessment.
