Americorps seniors

April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month

Meet a few of our dedicated Americorps Seniors Volunteers

Dwhite RSVP

Delores White

When Covid 19 happened in March/April 2020 and everything seemed to stand still or simply shut down, one particular individual named Delores White came to Louisville Metro Retired Senior Volunteer Program to give her time and dedication to helping others.  Over the next few years, she has put in some of the most time and energy into various RSVP organizations and important causes.  She volunteers at least 4 to 5 times a week with couple different Dare to Care Food Bank distribution sites (ex. First Lutheran Church and Newburg Community Center) as well as helps at Catholic Charities Sister Visitor Center. She is very aware of the food scarcity issue in Louisville and certain pockets in the community that are not getting healthy and nutritional food and has made that a major focus area of her volunteerism.  In addition, Delores White has also helped with a variety of special RSVP events such as helping at couple special Veterans Day Appreciation activities, a joint AARP Advocacy & Outreach during the 2023 Kentucky General Assembly Session, and few of the AARP & RSVP Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL) “Boomers and Beyond” Recruitment events.  The RSVP Program is so grateful for all our volunteers for what they do but certainly Delores White has stepped up in a huge way these past few years.

Alzheimer's Association Annual Report

2023 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures is a statistical resource for U.S. data related to Alzheimer’s disease, the most common cause of dementia. Background and context for interpretation of the data are contained in the Overview. Additional sections address prevalence, mortality and morbidity, caregiving, the dementia care workforce, and the use and costs of health care and services. Better Alzheimer’s disease care requires conversations about memory at the earliest point of concern and a knowledgeable, accessible care team that includes physician specialists to diagnose, monitor disease progression and treat when appropriate. The Special Report examines obstacles and opportunities for achieving better care in an era of new treatments for Alzheimer’s.

Utilizing Creative Strategies to Increase Employment for Hispanics with Disabilities in Texas

Come join the DETAC as we showcase a local-level collaboration between Vocational Rehabilitation, a Center for Independent Living , and a Disability Chamber of Commerce in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) region of Texas. They collaborate to increase competitive, integrated employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The region they serve has some of the poorest cities in the nation with a large Hispanic population. In response to this challenge, the partners work together to adopt innovative strategies to transition people with disabilities out of poverty as a central component of the partnership. The panel will highlight how they leverage each other’s resources that results in successful employment outcomes. We will also explore how these strategies include effective relationships with employers and how they work to support job seekers with disabilities in connecting to employment.

The Range of Remedies in Elder Mistreatment

Elder mistreatment cases are often complex, and contextual and cultural variations impact elder mistreatment perceptions and responses. These factors may create challenges in identifying and navigating appropriate remedies and responses. Recommended interventions vary based on the type, severity, and context of abuse, as well as the goals, preferences, and values of the older adult who has experienced harm.  In this webinar hosted by the ACL-funded National Center on Elder Abuse, panelists will discuss the range and effectiveness of elder justice remedies and interventions, including restorative justice, criminal and civil legal remedies, and best practices in the field. A Q&A session will follow the panel discussion
