Office for Women launches Ambassadors Program to Empower Leaders across Metro Louisville

On Thursday, January 19th, the Office for Women will begin the OFW Ambassadors, a six-month training program for women and gender diverse individuals who represent communities across Metro Louisville.  Ambassadors were selected based on their community contributions and their commitment to helping to raise the status of women and girls.   The group includes individuals who focus on maternal and child health and well-being, entrepreneurs, advocates for immigrants and refugees, youth advocates and seniors, among others.

“Women are a vital part of our city’s future.  I am excited to engage more leaders who can help us solve the problems of today and ensure that our city grows to its full potential,” asserted Mayor Craig Greenberg.

Through the program, participants will develop and hone their leadership skills, learn about issues impacting women, and explore government and community programs available to women. The OFW Ambassadors will serve as community liaisons, sharing information about vital community services and communicating back to government about the needs of women in their communities.   Sessions will focus on the structure of local government, Metro Council, issues impacting women and gender diverse individuals, including housing, childcare, gender-based violence, economic development, planning and zoning, civic engagement and Boards and Commissions.

“To truly achieve our mission of raising the status of women, we need to include many diverse voices.  I am excited to work alongside and learn from these dynamic women and individuals to envision a Louisville where everyone can thrive,” explained Gretchen Hunt, Executive Administrator of the Office for Women.
