+ Louisville Metro Government re-designated as Certified Welcoming
Louisville has been re-designated as Certified Welcoming by the leading national nonprofit Welcoming America!
Certified Welcoming is a formal designation for cities and counties that have created policies and programs reflecting their values and commitment to immigrant inclusion. This innovative program assesses city and county governments on their efforts to include and welcome immigrants in all areas of civic, social, and economic life in their communities.
With a Certified Welcoming designation, communities distinguish their local efforts, build a competitive advantage, and gain access to opportunities to share their welcoming practices on a regional, national, and global stage.

The Landbank Authority is a cooperative effort by the major taxing authorities in Louisville Metro (city of Louisville, Commonwealth of Kentucky and Jefferson County Public Schools). Its mission is to put vacant and abandoned properties back into productive use to improve our neighborhoods by increasing property values, stimulate the tax base, and reducing crime rates.
Following a two-year-long racial equity review, the Landbank Authority launched new programs through which people can purchase vacant structures and lots. The authority began accepting applications through these new programs this week.

+ See the Jack O' Lantern Spectacular in Iroquois Park
October 4 - October 31, Trail opens at dusk
The Louisville Parks Alliance is celebrating 10 years of this incredible family-friendly event that supports the Parks Alliance of Louisville and their public parks. The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular was started in Oxford, Massachusetts in 1988 by a handful of families and their kids as a fundraiser for the public school system. After they grew up, some of those high-schoolers and one of the dads eventually took the show to the Providence Zoo. From those humble beginnings, Passion for Pumpkins, Inc., a multimedia production company was formed. The event came to Louisville in 2013 and is held annually in Iroquois Park with more than 5,000 artistically carved pumpkins illuminated at night as an “organic art show”.
