Air Quality Action Partners Program
Receives National Recognition

The Association of Air Pollution Control Agencies (AAPCA) today announced the APCD's Air Quality Action Partners (AQAPs) program as a 2022 Best Practice in Air Pollution Control.

Per AAPCA, this recognition identifies groundbreaking technology, innovative practices, and exemplary operations in the field of air pollution control.

The AQAPs program encourages businesses in Louisville to become "Air Quality Action Partners" by taking voluntary steps to improve air quality and protect the health of their employees and the public, particularly on days when an air quality alert is issued.

At a minimum, Air Quality Action Partners must sign up to receive Air Quality Alerts on days when pollution levels are expected to be high, distribute the alerts to employees, and make a few additional commitments to improve air quality. Sources of pollution that are permitted or registered by the Air Pollution Control District may complete even more impactful commitments to be recognized as Platinum, Gold, or Silver Level partners.

In the first year of the program 23 partners followed through on their commitments, ranging from prioritizing the purchase and use of lower emission vehicles to reducing emission generating activities on air quality alert days. Four companies were recognized as Platinum partners and seven as Gold partners. Emissions avoided due to their actions totaled at least 80.2 tons of nitrogen oxides, 0.84 tons of particulate matter, and 29,529 tons of greenhouse gases.

27 companies have signed up for the second year of the program. Businesses may sign up at any time using this form. Any questions can be directed here.
