Town Hall Meeting, 9/11 Remembrance and a Legislative Update
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Next Tuesday, September 20th at 6:30PM is our District 19 annual Town Hall Meeting. It will include representatives from many city agencies who will be there to answer questions and connect with you. This is a rare opportunity to speak directly to the executive branch civil servants who support our district related to public safety, roads and infrastructure, and other departments. It will take place at Stopher Elementary School and we look forward to seeing you there.
This past Sunday was the 21st anniversary of 9/11. As a resident of New Jersey at that time and having just moved out of NYC, these events struck very close to home. Just days later I stood at the barriers around 9/11 and witnessed first-hand the devastation while the pile of rubble from the trade towers was still smoking. Like many Americans, that day had a profound impact on me and it was the catalyst that motivated me to join the Marine Corps. We must never forget that day and I hope we all take this time to memorialize the sacrifice of so many through some level of service to our community and country.
This past week we voted on several pieces of legislation including:
- Codifying the property tax rates for this next fiscal year based on the budget we passed in June – as a reminder, the property tax rate for our area went down again and this is a lower rate than at any time in merged government history.
- We amended the truck parking ordinance which allowed some conditional uses for truck parking in M-1 zoned areas in an effort to stop illegal truck parking in residential neighborhoods.
- We approved the annexation of a small residential neighborhood of 16 homes into the City of St. Matthews.
