FridayFest Tomorrow!! Thumper and the Plaid Rabbits

a

Last FridayFest of the Year!!!

FridayFest features local music, local food trucks, and community socializing every other Friday, throughout the summer, from 6-10pm at Highview Park. The event is open to the public, family friendly, and best of all free! Our next concert is August 5th, featuring Thumper and the Plaid Rabbits.

Thumper and the Plaid Rabbits have been rocking for the better part of two decades across the land as one of the country's best-loved bands. A "college rock" powerhouse that combines the best of the '80s new wave sounds with the diversity of the best in '90s, an evening with Thumper and the Plaid Rabbits is always unforgettable.  Sam Varga opens the show

South Park Detour Continues This Week

The project is part of the widening of nearby Blue Lick Road

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of the closure of South Park Road for one week in the Okolona neighborhood of Jefferson County.

South Park Road will be closed to thru traffic from 7 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, between KY 61 (Preston Highway) to KY 1450 (Blue Lick Road). Local traffic will be allowed, but South Park Road will be blocked just east of KY 1450 for sewer and resurfacing work. The construction is part of the project to widen Blue Lick Road between KY 1450 and Interstate 265 (Gene Snyder Freeway).

Electronic message boards were installed to alert drivers of the upcoming closure. Motorists should follow this posted detour: KY 1450 to KY 61 to South Park Road/KY 2845 (East Manslick Road) and vice versa.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Visit goky.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5 and twitter.com/KYTCDistrict5.

BBB August 2022 Hot Topics

  1. A local consumer reported receiving a phone call regarding a Department of Education grant; the call was a scam. BBB warns consumers to be on the lookout for government imposters; any unsolicited messages promoting a government grant are a red flag that you are dealing with a scammer.
  1. A consumer alerted BBB that they’d received a message regarding a COVID-19 grant from a “friend” on Facebook. They soon learned their friend’s account had been hacked and the grant was a scam. BBB warns that this scam is making the rounds, and that any “free” grant requiring the consumer to pay money upfront is a sign of a scam.
  1. BBB continues to receive reports of cryptocurrency scams and wants to remind consumers that if an investment “opportunity” seems too good to be true or promises immediate large returns, it is likely a scam.
  1. A consumer reported an online clothing boutique that failed to deliver the consumer’s order and refused to issue a refund. BBB warns consumers to always review companies before making purchases, and to pay with a secure form of payment such as a credit card in case you need to dispute the charge later.
  1. BBB continues to receive reports of puppy scams in the area. When buying a new pet, make sure you see the animal in person first, check the breeder’s credentials and references, and only pay with a secured method such as a credit card. Adopting from an accredited charity is also an excellent way to find your next pet!
  1. A local consumer reported a fake AT&T survey to BBB. The consumer received a message stating that upon completion of a survey, they would win a smartwatch and only have to pay shipping and handling. The consumer ended up having over $100 deducted from their account. Beware of scam texts promoting surveys or prizes, and never click on links in unsolicited texts.
  1. Consumers continue to report receiving fake Publisher’s Clearing House phone calls. The real Publisher’s Clearing House only notifies their winners by mail, not by phone. Any “sweepstakes organization” that asks for money upfront to claim a grand prize is very likely a scam.
  1. Consumers have reported receiving unsolicited text messages regarding real estate property and/or if they are interested in selling their homes. BBB warns against responding to these texts as they are likely a phishing scam. Homeowners interested in selling their property should instead contact a licensed, reputable real estate agent directly.
  1. BBB warns consumers in the market for a new driveway to watch out for asphalt paving scams. Unscrupulous contractors have tricked homeowners with supposedly good deals, only for the homeowners to end up with shoddy pavement – or nothing at all. Research companies on bbb.org before hiring, get everything in writing, and use secure payment methods.
  1. Planning a party? BBB warns consumers to watch out for party supply rental scams.  Consumers have reported renting items such as tents and furniture and paying a deposit, only for the items to never arrive on the day of their event. Research companies before you rent, and always pay with credit card.

Neighborhood Place Partner Agencies Host Back to School Events

The Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services (RCS) is donating $200,000 to purchase school supplies, including backpacks, folders, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons and rulers, that will be given out at seven back-to-school events planned for late July and early August by Neighborhood Place and numerous community partners.

The funding was made possible by a special allocation of federal Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)-CARES funding, which RCS received to expand services and programming for families financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additional supplies, funding and other types of support for the family friendly events are being provided by area businesses, churches, schools and individual donors. In addition to the supplies being distributed while supplies last, the events will offer a range of services and resources to help local youth and families be prepared for the start of the school year.
