Tennis Camp Success!

dfasdffsdfsad

Kids in the Southend need fun camps and things to do! I’ll always support our youth. They are the future!

I am so proud of all of kids at this week’s Tennis Camp! They are learning, having fun and reminding me how important investing in our youth is for their future. Sports help teach us all teamwork, sportsmanship, competitiveness, empathy and skills that go far beyond the sport itself.

Tennis Camp is also about making new friends 🧡 Thanks for a good week Louisville Parks and Recreation and USTA! Also a huge shoutout to JCPS Nutrition Services for providing healthy lunches to the kids! They were a hit.

If you would like information on upcoming youth programs in District 25, send an email to Amy.holtonstewart@louisvilleky.gov

Summer Reading & Cultural Pass Make for a Great Summer

asdffdsasdaffsd

The Louisville Free Public Library’s annual 10-week Summer Reading Program encourages children and teens to read for fun over the summer and helps them avoid summer learning loss.

School-aged children simply read ten books, teens read six books, and preschool-aged children and younger need to read, or have read to them, 20 books to complete the program. Studies have shown that children who participate in public library summer reading programs increase their enjoyment of reading, improve their reading skills, and return to school better prepared to learn.

The 2022 Cultural Pass offers individuals ages 0-21 in Greater Louisville access to arts and culture activities provided by 57 venues, free of charge, from June 1 through September 4, 2022.

The Cultural Pass is designed to inspire, explore, and discover new experiences. This year’s Cultural Pass will offer both in-person and virtual opportunities so that every family can participate in a way that works for them! On the first Saturday of June, July, and August Cultural Pass participants can also attend Cultural Pass Days - click here to learn more. LFPL’s Summer Reading Program and Cultural Pass start June 1 and are FREE to all area youth. You can pre-register now for both programs online or by downloading the Beanstack Tracker app (for iOS or Android). Cultural Passes will be available for pickup June 1st at LFPL libraries.

On Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., you can participate in Summer Reading Kickoff and Cultural Pass Day at the Main Library.  Enjoy FREE crafts and activities from the Library and Cultural Pass venues, as well as magic, face painting, and live performances from the Louisville Leopards, Flamenco Dance, and Redline Performing Arts. PLUS - food trucks will be available, so you can have lunch on site too.

District 25 Infrastructure Investment Update - 6/10/22

St Anthony Church Road Paving Update:

6/17/22

  • Our safety improvements contractor, Louisville Paving, is planning to start roadway improvements this week.
  • There is quite a bit of drainage and roadway improvement work to complete so I anticipate those to take several weeks to complete.
  • Once the roadway improvements are completed, the paving of the roadway will follow.  I suspect the actual paving portion of the roadway will occur early to mid-July.

6/10/22

  • Work is scheduled to begin on 6/13/22.
  • Message boards have been placed to let neighbors know of the work and to expect delays over the next few weeks.

5/13/22

  • Public Works is working with MSD on a cross drain which has caused some erosion onto the hillside supporting the roadway at one location.
  • Expect construction & paving work to start on St. Anthony Church Road in the next few weeks
  • Expect road closures during construction & paving
  • There will be a lot of prep work completed prior to paving including reconstruction of some ditches, adding curbs, replacing cross drains, and some other improvements we plan to install to help with safety.
  • MSD also has a cross drain needing to be replaced
  • Several lane closures and the MSD cross drain will likely require a full closure for a few days.
  • Public Works will send out those closure notifications as they are planned to occur.

St. Anthony Church Road Sidewalk Project:

  • Currently in right-of-way acquisition phase
  • Plan approved
  • Expect construction to begin Fall 2022

Barrett Lane Private Road Dedication & Paving:

  • Awaiting final approval from MSD on the dedication and then the deed needs to be recorded.
  • Paving will be scheduled once right-of-way dedication and deeds are recorded

Blevins Gap Bridge Update

asfdsfsafd

"The culvert on Blevins Gap Rd has encountered 2 issues which will delay construction.  First, I sent over the construction items for Louisville Paving, who hold the Metro Safety improvements contract, to price for me to try and avoid more time going through procurement.  Upon reviewing the request.  They immediately responded back to let me know that the beams needed to support the bridge deck would not be available until September at the earliest.  Upon hearing that news, I asked our consultant if there were any design alternatives and what those increased costs may be which they replied that they anticipated lead time challenges regardless of what changes they could possibly make.  This does not surprise me given the current times.

Secondly and in addition to this, we were notified yesterday from the consultant that there are endangered long-eared bats in the area which utilize trees that need to come down in order to complete work.  The Corp of Engineers is requiring us to not cut down trees until October 15 or later, otherwise we would be required to make a contribution to assist in relocating the bats. We reached out to the Corps of Engineers to discuss our position and they strongly recommended that we not try to expedite construction.

Given these issues, I still want to complete the project this year if possible.  I was informed that we can start construction as long as we did not remove the trees, so I will push to get as much done as we can between now and October.  But, we will not be able to complete the project in summer of 2022 as I had originally hoped.

We apologize for any inconvenience to those affected.

Please contact myself or Jeff Brown through email if needed.  I will keep you updated of any other news regarding this project as it comes to my attention."

Thank you,
