Friday Thoughts

Happy Friday!

This week kicked off with the first of our budget hearings, including a presentation from the Office of Management and Budget where we discussed the revenue projections for the year. As I've said before, I expected this forecast to be positive and it was. This is a testament to the resilience of our local economy and will make budgeting this year much easier.

However, the news was not all great. The city's CFO provided projections for the next several years as well. In the longer term, there are concerns about revenue shortfalls due to the pay adjustments we've made and assumptions about not receiving non-recurring revenue that is in the current budget (things like capital gains windfalls). These are just early estimates, so I don't want to sound the alarm just yet. It should, however, serve as a reminder to maintain fiscal discipline and remain conservative in funding new and/or expanded programs lest we have to pull back on those efforts in a few years. As a reminder, you can click here to comment on the budget or sign up to speak at one of the two public hearings.

In other news, I encourage everyone to take part in Kentucky's Primary Election on Tuesday. Louisville voters will be nominating candidates for U. S. Senate, Louisville Metro Mayor, Kentucky Senate and House of Representatives, and many other offices.  Early in-person voting is still available through tomorrow. Click here for a list of locations and times. If you plan to vote on election day, click here to find your polling location.

As always, please let me know if my office can help in any way.
