Below is a summary of some of the items considered at last night's Metro Council meeting. Click here to access the complete agenda or to watch the meeting.
Financial Disclosure - The Council approved amendments to our financial disclosure ordinance requiring additional disclosures from certain elected officials, appointed positions, staff members, and others. This legislation was informed by a Kentucky League of Cities model ordinance already adopted by many municipalities around Kentucky.
Boards/Commissions - The Council approved appointments to the Code Enforcement Board, the Air Pollution Control District Board, the Okolona Fire Protection District Board, and the Louisville Metro Tree Advisory Committee. (Click here to see the full list of metro boards and commissions or to begin the application process.)
Land Use - Changes in zoning were approved for properties located in District 21 and District 23.
My next "Coffee with your Councilman" will be Saturday, March 19 beginning at 9 a.m. We'll meet at the Berrytown Community Center, 1300 Heafer Road. Major Joshua Hasch of LMPD's 8th Division will be our featured guest. These meetings are a great opportunity to get caught up on what's happening with metro government and share any concerns or suggestions you have.
WHEN: Saturday, March 19 at 9 a.m.
WHERE: Berrytown Community Center, 1300 Heafer Road
If you have a topic you'd like to hear more about or an organization you'd like to hear from at a future coffee meeting, please let me know. I hope to see you on the 19th!
The map above shows what work is planned along portions of I-265 and I-71 as part of I-Move Kentucky.
On Tuesday, I met with a representative from KYTC to discuss I-Move Kentucky. This is a $180 million investment to improve congestion and safety along portions of I-265, I-64, and I-71. I was particularly interested (as I know many of you are) in the noise barriers along these interstates that will serve many residents of our district.
The Summit Place/Cobblestone noise barrier along I-71 has already been installed. This spring, work is scheduled to begin on the Paddocks at Eastpoint noise barrier along I-265. From there, work will continue northward on barriers near Winchester Acres, Indian Springs, and Brownhurst Manor. (You will likely need to zoom in several times to see the start/stop points for each barrier.) The Brownhurst Manor noise barrier, the last of these four to be done, is expected to be completed next spring. There is no timetable yet for the Worthington Glen noise barrier along I-71.
The gym in the Berrytown Community Center is a great place to play basketball or pickleball.
I had the pleasure yesterday of touring the Berrytown Community Center and the Watson-Powell Senior Center. These are two great facilities that offer a host of opportunities for people in our district. Do you like to play pickleball? Have you been looking for a place for your neighborhood to host its meetings? Is there someone you know who would be interested in wheelchair soccer? All these programs and more are offered at one of these two facilities. I hope you have the chance to check them out soon (maybe starting with our coffee meeting on the 19th!).
Members of the Clean Collaborative helped clean Murphy Lane from Westport Road to KY 22.
Tuesday morning, I joined members of the Clean Collaborative to pick up trash along Murphy Lane. I hope those of you who live in the area noticed a difference and will do all you can to keep it free of litter. (Since January, the Clean Collaborative Crew has collected more than 3,000 bags of litter, 607 tires, and more than 1,300 other items from along our roadways!)
Our next cleanup will be Saturday, April 16, the day of Brightside's Community-Wide Cleanup. If you know of an area that could use some attention, please let me know. I'll have more details on the cleanup as we get closer to the date. I hope you'll be able to join us!
The Walking Club route is highlighted in blue.
The Louisville Zoo Get Healthy Walking Club is now accepting participants. It is free to join and includes free entry into the zoo from 8-9:15 a.m. (walkers can enjoy the zoo until 9:30 a.m.) through October 31. The loop used is a hard surface just over one mile long. Directional signs keep walkers on track and provide special health tips along the way. Zoo exhibits, concessions, etc. are not open during Walking Club hours. Those interested can register here.
