Miracle League of Louisville at Fern Creek Park: Players and Volunteers needed for the 2022 Season!

Greetings,

Calling all players and volunteers for the 2022 Miracle League of Louisville baseball season! The Miracle League of Louisville is a baseball league and complex located in Fern Creek Park (Metro District 22), but serves all Louisville Metro Districts and Kentuckiana for children and adults with physical, cognitive, and/or emotional disabilities. The league had a very successful summer and fall season in 2021 and we are now seeking volunteers for the upcoming 2022 spring baseball season. Volunteer opportunities include being a Buddy (each player in the league has their own Buddy who assists them on the field and in the dugout for each game), coach, assistant coach, umpire, dugout assistant, or general volunteer each game day! The spring baseball season games will be played on Saturdays from April 9, 2022 through June 11, 2022 with the exception of Derby Day and Memorial Day. The volunteer commitment will require a minimum of one hour, or longer if interested each week. Church groups, athletic teams, corporate groups, civic groups, and school clubs are just a few examples of individuals that can come together to serve our community. Volunteering as an individual or a group for The Miracle League of Louisville will build camaraderie and a sense of community involvement.

Online registration for players and volunteers begins on January 2, 2022! KYTC to assume Bowman Field Driver’s License operations Jan. 13

This transition will complete our office’s full handoff of our driver’s license operations to KYTC.

Kentucky residents may now visit any KYTC Driver Licensing Regional Office in Kentucky (regardless of their county of residence) for a regular/standard driver’s license, REAL ID, personal ID and more. Additionally, KYTC is offering license renewals Online and By Mail.

BBB January 2022 Hot Topics.

As tax season approaches, BBB warns of IRS copycat websites. One local consumer has already encountered one and reported it to BBB. Copycat websites often charge you for a service that is typically free, and they often “phish” for your personal and financial information. Visit the IRS’s actual website (IRS.gov) for all tax-related forms, questions, etc.
A local consumer reported to BBB that her son and daughter had fallen victim to an Instagram “brand ambassador” scam. They were offered discount codes on products; however, the items were never received. Be wary of anyone who comments on your Instagram posts with “DM to collab” (or similar messaging), offers you an ambassadorship role right away, and/or asks you to buy a product. These are red flags for scams!
A local consumer reported to BBB that he was the victim of an online romance scam, and the scammers were threatening to release compromising images to his family and friends. BBB warns against sending any intimate photos or videos to potential romantic partners you’ve just met. You could become the victim of attempted blackmail.
BBB continues to receive reports of reshipping scams involving Gentleman’s Courier Service. It has been reported to BBB by the former owner of Gentleman’s Courier Service that someone is using the now-closed company’s name and likeness to pose as a legitimate business. BBB reminds consumers that any “job opportunity” that involves receiving other people’s packages at your personal residence is likely a reshipping scam.
BBB received a report from a local consumer regarding an employment scam. Upon completing an “application” through the Telegram app and Facebook messenger, the consumer received a check to be used for equipment. BBB warns of any job offers that include sending you a check to pay for equipment. These are typically scams that leave the victim on the hook for the bad check.
BBB received a report from a local consumer regarding a horse breeder scam. The victim purchased a horse from a supposed breeder, but the animal was never delivered, and the scammer attempted to demand more money. When purchasing or adopting any pet, it’s important to see the animal in person first, check the breeder’s references, and reverse Google search any photos of the animal sent by the breeder.
A local consumer received a call allegedly from LG&E, stating their service would be shut off in 30 minutes if they did not pay a past due bill immediately. LG&E will never call you and demand payment over the phone. When in doubt, contact LG&E directly.
One local consumer reported to BBB that he’d received a Facebook message from a friend inviting him to apply for a government grant. He became suspicious when the grant website asked for money upfront before approving the grant, and later learned his friend’s Facebook account had been hacked. BBB warns against any grants, scholarships, or sweepstakes that demand payment upfront before delivering the promised monetary reward.
BBB continues to receive reports of scam Amazon phone calls. As a reminder, Amazon will not call you to question a purchase; this phishing scam is an attempt to gain access to your Amazon account and/or financial information.
BBB warns of scam coupon offers appearing on social media platforms. Don’t fall for deals that are too good to be true, check the source of the coupon, read the coupon carefully, and don’t trade your personal information for any alleged perks.

Pothole patching, sweeping, drain & ditch cleaning, striping, pavement marking, and maintenance crews may work on major interstates in the Louisville Metro area only during non-peak daytime hours and at night. Motorists should watch for roadside maintenance on interstates and highways throughout the rest of the district daily.

I-264 West (Watterson Expressway): Lane closures possible for partial depth patching and permanent striping from mile marker 8.5 (near Dixie Highway) to mile marker 7, provided temperatures are above 40 degrees. Ramp closures are possible during this operation.

I-264 West (Watterson Expressway): Lane closures possible for installation of traffic counter stations from mile marker 8 (Dixie Highway) to mile marker 2 (Bank Street).

I-265 South (Gene Snyder Freeway): Left lane on the exit ramp to Westport Road and Chamberlain Lane (exit 32) was closed in January 2021 after a vehicle struck the overpass. The left lane will remain closed until a repair can be made. Funding for repair has been secured; the project has been awarded. Work will be completed in summer 2022.

U.S. 31E (Buechel Bypass): Right lane closure over the Norfolk Southern Railroad (mile point 10.4) due to findings from a routine inspection last year. The affected area is not visible while driving over the bridge deck. KYTC has secured money for the repairs but the railroad must review and approve all plans. KY 146 (La Grange Road): Lane closures and delays are possible between Lilly Lane (mile point 6.3) and Stanley Gault Parkway (mile point 6.6) for utility work related to the upcoming installation of a left turn lane at English Station Road. The project’s estimated completion is winter 2021-’22.

KY 1450 (Blue Lick Road): Weekday lane closures possible between Gene Snyder and Preston Highway for road widening work. The project’s estimated completion is summer 2023.
