Redistricting, American Recovery Act (ARP), and Happy Veterans Day
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This Thursday, Metro Council will vote on the final redistricting map for the city which will affect the boundaries of all 26 Council districts for the next 10 years. We will also be voting on the second round of ARP funding (the first was for emergency allocations such as housing assistance and public health) for the city. The following are some details on these important issues.
Redistricting is required by State and Federal Law every decade following the publishing of new Census data. The purpose of redistricting is to update the borders for various districts to ensure that people have near equal representation. Other goals for redistricting include keeping districts compact, keeping neighborhoods together, and maximizing minority districts.
