Groundbreaking for Buechel-Newburg Community Health Center
The District 10 office was glad to join in the groundbreaking of the Buechel-Newburg Community Health Center this morning at 3828 Bardstown Road.
In the photo above, Dr. Swannie Jett, CEO of Park Duvalle Community Health Center, is in the center in a blue suit, surrounded by PDCHC staff.
The new facility is part of Park DuValle Community Health Centers, non-profit medical centers that have served the local community for more than 50 years. The new facility will replace the Park Duvalle at Newburg location on Hikes Lane.
The center got its start in the early 1960s, when residents of the Park Duvalle neighborhood approached city government about the lack of medical services in the area. At that time, the only hospital was in the east end, and there was no public transportation after 5 p.m.
Federal Office of Economic Opportunity funding was secured and in 1968, Dr. Harvey I. Sloane became the center’s first director. Federal funding continues to support the operation of Park DuValle Community Health Center, Inc. to provide high-quality health services to patients living in medically underserved communities. The cost of health care provided is based on ability to pay and a sliding fee scale continues to be available to income eligible patients.
Services at the Buechel-Newburg center will include adult medicine, pediatrics, mental health, full-service dental, OB/GYN, CLIA-certified lab, full-service pharmacy, pharmacy delivery and patient transportation.
Please join us in welcoming this vital health center to District 10!
