After talking last year off we are once again organizing the McNeely Lake Cleanup. Each year volunteers have collect tons of trash from the lake and park. Supplies for the cleaning will be provided. Summary of Project: The applicant, Joseph Waldman of Highgates Development, is updating the previous change of zoning request to include a single-family residential component. The updated change of zoning request is from R4 to R5 and R7 on +/- 36 acres. Approximately 16 acres are requested to be zoned R5 for 80 single-family residential lots. The remaining +/- 20 acres are requested to be zoned R7 for a 354-unit, multi-family development of 3-story buildings.

Ticket sales began September 1 for the Halloween event that takes place October 1-3, 7-10, 14-17, 21-24 and 28-30 (Thursday – Sunday nights, October 1-30).
Children can dress up in their wildest costumes for the event that turns the Zoo into a living storybook, complete with favorite characters brought to life, music, socially-distanced photo opportunities around every corner and, of course, a safe place to trick-or-treat for kids 11 and under.

Boo at the Zoo presented by Meijer will have reduced nightly capacity to allow for ease of traffic flow and social distancing.
Tickets
Tickets for Boo at the Zoo presented by Meijer are $12.50 for non-members (both adults and children 3 and older) and $6 for members (both adults and children 3 and older). Children 2 and under are free and do not require a ticket. To minimize contact points, tickets are all-inclusive, covering the cost of Boo at the Zoo admission, parking, Spooktacular Carousel, “not-so-itsy-bitsy” Spider House and the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow attraction.
Members and guests can purchase tickets online at LouisvilleZoo.org, with their chosen date and arrival time. Tickets are limited each night and some nights may sell out quickly.
Boo at the Zoo presented by Meijer is a rain or shine event.
A limited amount of Meijer anytime tickets can be purchased at participating Meijer stores for $10.50 beginning September 26. Click here for a list of stores.
Event Hours/Special Dates
On Boo at the Zoo event days:
- The Zoo will close early for regular daytime visitors. Gates will close at 3:00pm with guests being allowed to visit until 4:00pm.
- Halloween guests can begin entering the Zoo at their selected times, starting at 5:00pm. The trick-or-treat route closes, and all guests must exit by 10:00pm.
- Allergy Friendly night is Thursday, October 21 and will feature peanut-free treat booths and added non-food treats like stickers, pencils and more. Children with allergies can request an allergy-friendly option at each of the booths.
Costumes
The Zoo encourages all visitors to wear costumes and ask that they be family friendly. Adults may not wear full costume masks that cover the entire face.

Dog of the Week:
That was the sound of hearts everywhere melting for Mr. Hanky! No hanky-panky here, Mr. Hanky is a friendly and sweet boy. Even sweeter, Mr. Hanky's adoption fee is waived for an approved adopter thanks to the Pay It Forward Program. The approximately 2-year-old Rottweiler mix weighs about 65lbs. Mr. Hanky is already neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. He can be tested with children, other dogs, or cats by request. BOGO kitten adoptions are now just $50 donation at Animal House Adoption Center. Kittens do better in pairs and they’ll always have a playmate, if you adopt two. Spay-neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included. If kittens sound like a lot of work, then adopt a more mature companion. Adult cat adoptions are always free to adopt, thanks to the Pay It Forward Free Adoptions program. I-64 East and West: Complete roadway closure at the Cochran Hill Tunnels (mile marker 8.4) to upgrade and install LED lighting. The roadway closure is scheduled for the following weekends:
- Friday, September 24 at 9 p.m. and continue through Monday, September 27 at 5 a.m.
- Friday, October 1 at 9 p.m. and continue through Monday, October 4 at 5 a.m.
- Friday, October 8 at 9 p.m. and continue through Monday, October 11 at 5 a.m.
Motorists should follow signed detours:
- I-64 West: take I-264 East to I-71 South, then reconnect with I-64 West downtown
- I-64 East: take I-71 North to I-264 West to reconnect with I-64 East
I-264 East & West (Watterson Expressway): Lane closures possible between mile marker 0 (I-64) and mile marker 11 (Airport/Fairgrounds) for concrete repair. Weeknight (Monday through Thursday) lane closures are possible from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Weekend lane closures are possible from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday morning.
I-265 East (Gene Snyder Freeway): Overnight and weekend lane closures possible from the Billtown Road interchange (mile marker 18.8) to the Taylorsville Road interchange (mile marker 23.3) for a concrete repair project. Nightly lane closures are possible from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-265 West (Gene Snyder Freeway): Overnight and weekend lane closures possible from the Taylorsville Road interchange (mile marker 23.3) to the Billtown Road interchange (mile marker 18.8) for a concrete repair project. Nightly lane closures are possible from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-265 South (Gene Snyder Freeway): Left lane on the exit ramp to Westport Road and Chamberlain Lane (Exit 32) was closed on January 29 after the overpass was struck by a vehicle. The left lane will remain closed until a repair can be made. Drivers should heed signage while moving through the work zone.
I-265 North and South (Gene Snyder Freeway) at East End Tunnels: Lane closures and delays possible in both directions beginning Monday, September 27 through Friday, October 1, daily from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to routine maintenance cleaning of the East End Tunnels (mile marker 37). Please slow down, heed signage, and give our crews and their equipment plenty of room for safety.
US 31E (Bardstown Road/ Buechel Bypass): Nightly lane closures and delays possible on US 31E (Bardstown Road) from Storage Way (mile point 5.8) to Hikes Lane / KY 2052 (mile point 10.98) for asphalt milling and paving. Work will begin on Wednesday, September 29, and continue nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. until work is complete.
US 31E (Buechel Bypass): Right lane closure over the Norfolk Southern Railroad (mile marker 10.4) due to findings from a routine inspection earlier this year. The affected area is not visible while driving over the bridge deck. The lane will remain closed until a repair can be coordinated with the railroad. Drivers can use Bardstown Road as a detour. US 60A (Taylor Boulevard): Nightly lane closures and delays possible on US 60A (Taylor Boulevard from mile marker 1.4 (KY 1865/Berry Boulevard) to mile marker 3.4 (just before Eastern Parkway) nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to install striping/roadway markings. This resurfacing project also includes changes to the existing striping and roadway alignment. KY 146 (La Grange Road): Lane closures and delays possible between Lilly Lane (mile point 6.3) and Stanley Gault Parkway (mile point 6.6) for utility work related to the upcoming installation of a left turn lane at English Station Road. Drivers should heed signage while moving through the work zone or seek an alternate route.
KY1447 (Westport Road): Lane closures and delays are possible from Freys Hill Road (mile marker 6.0) to KY 146 (mile marker 9.2) for asphalt resurfacing. Nightly lane closures are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers should heed signage while moving through the work zone or seek an alternate route.
KY 1450 (Blue Lick Road): Weekday lane closures possible between Gene Snyder and Preston Highway for road widening work.
