Buechel Bypass to be closed for pavement repair Friday night

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists of lane closures and pavement repair on Buechel Bypass (US 31E / US 150) beginning Friday evening.

Crews will be working in the northbound lanes of Buechel Bypass from Hikes Lane (mile marker 10.9) to Fairland Avenue (mile marker 9.9). Work will take place between 8 p.m. on Friday, August 27 and 6 a.m. on Saturday, August 28.

Drivers should use caution and heed signage while traveling through the work zone.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Visit goky.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5 and twitter.com/KYTCDistrict5.

About the closed bridge lane on the Buechel Bypass

Buechel Bridge

From the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet:

The right lane of U.S. 31E (Buechel Bypass) in Jefferson Co was closed over the Norfolk Southern Railroad (mm 10.4) after deterioration on one of the pier caps of the bridge was found during a routine inspection in February. The affected area is not visible while driving over the bridge deck.

Our engineers have since performed an in-depth inspection with material testing, and have designed an economical repair to extend the life of the bridge. They are now reviewing and finalizing the design, recommending a railroad and vehicular traffic plan, writing the construction proposal, and securing state funds to pay for the repair. Our KYTC Railroad Coordinator in Frankfort has also initiated the railroad agreement, however, the railroad has to review and approve all plans, and that process could take a considerable amount of time. The lane will remain closed until a repair can be made. Drivers can use Bardstown Road as a detour.
