About the closed bridge lane on the Buechel Bypass
 From the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet:
The right lane of U.S. 31E (Buechel Bypass) in Jefferson Co was closed over the Norfolk Southern Railroad (mm 10.4) after deterioration on one of the pier caps of the bridge was found during a routine inspection in February. The affected area is not visible while driving over the bridge deck.
Our engineers have since performed an in-depth inspection with material testing, and have designed an economical repair to extend the life of the bridge. They are now reviewing and finalizing the design, recommending a railroad and vehicular traffic plan, writing the construction proposal, and securing state funds to pay for the repair. Our KYTC Railroad Coordinator in Frankfort has also initiated the railroad agreement, however, the railroad has to review and approve all plans, and that process could take a considerable amount of time. The lane will remain closed until a repair can be made. Drivers can use Bardstown Road as a detour. |
