Phillips Lane sidewalk project complete benefiting both District 21 and District 10

We are happy to share that the Phillips Lane sidewalk project is complete. Many years of work and planning have gone into the project, which transformed unsafe pedestrian conditions along the corridor. In 2014, a group of neighbors supported by the Center for Neighborhoods undertook a walkability assessment of Phillips Lane. That assessment laid the groundwork for the project.

In the photo at right, before, drainage from I-65 covered the sidewalk, forcing pedestrians to walk in the street.

Above, drainage is now diverted away from the sidewalk.

Thanks to Public Works' Steve Kurowsky, who was project manager and Public Works. Special thanks to District 21 Councilwoman Nicole George for her dedication to the project. This much needed improvement will provide good access to the Preston Corridor.

Recycling cart update

recycle photo

From Public Works:

Although the first round of recycling cart deliveries is complete, there are still a lot of recyclers that have yet to receive one. If you’re still waiting, here’s what you need to know:

  1. If you have not already filled out the Recycling Cart Request Form, do that as soon as possible.
  2. If you HAVE filled out the form, please do not fill it out again.
  3. We are currently delivering to addresses with Monday recycling collection. When those are complete, we’ll move to addresses with Tuesday recycling collection. Then Wednesday, and so on.
  4. This second round of deliveries are being done by our own crews (not contractors). We can only deliver about 85 carts per day and there are over 2,000 requests.
  5. While you wait for your new cart, you may continue to use your old recycling bin(s) as well as additional container(s) or cardboard boxes for recycling overflow. You may also utilize one of our recycling drop-off dumpsters
  6. We appreciate your patience!

The new every other week recycling schedule begins this week. The week of July 19 will be the first week with no recycling collection. Keep up with the schedule by downloading the Recycle Coach app. Learn more about this recycling cart project at Louisvilleky.gov/RecycleMore

Garbage and yard waste is still collected on a weekly basis.
