On Thursday, July 8, SWMS will begin delivering recycling carts to qualifying addresses reported on the form, starting with those that have Monday recycling collection, then Tuesday recycling collection, and so on. The Cart Request Form is still accepting submissions, but any requests made after July 7 will be included in the next round of deliveries. 

SWMS will exchange your 65 gallon cart for a 95 gallon cart if you want/need the larger one and if you have a 95 gallon cart they will exchange it for a 65 gallon cart, if you prefer a smaller one. Please contact Metro311 to request an exchange.

YARD WASTE COLLECTION DATE CHANGE: Yard waste will be collected every week. Those who collection day is Friday but was temporality getting service on Saturdays are now going back to your Friday day immediately.

The LMPD 4th Division Advisory Board, a group of citizens representing the neighborhoods of the 4th Division, meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 P.M.  The LMPD 4th Division Major meets with the Advisory Board to exchange Division news and hear community concerns. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is accepting applications through June 30, 2021, or until designated funds are depleted on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

Residents wishing to apply must schedule an appointment utilizing the automated appointment scheduler at 502/991-8391 or visit www.louisvilleky.cascheduler.com.

Applicants must be residents of Jefferson County with a household income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. The benefit amount awarded is based on a household’s income and primary fuel type. Benefits are paid directly to the utility vendor (i.e. LG&E).

For the Subsidy Component, residents can apply regardless of the status of their utility bills; it is not necessary to have a past-due amount.

Currently all LIHEAP offices remain closed to walk-in clients in accordance with CDC guidelines, therefore applicants will be requested to drop off all required documentations in a secured drop box at the LIHEAP office selected using the appointment system.

Metro's Meals on Wheels continues to operate delivering to more than 1240 homebound senior clients once per week with a five-frozen meal pack until daily, meal delivery can resume.  

Louisville’s senior congregate meal sites, which provide a nutritious lunch, socialization and activities for residents age 60 and over will begin reopening in stages by the end of the month. 

“We all look forward to being able to get back together, and we are excited to provide these nutritious meals on site to our seniors,” said Marvita Starks, program manager for the city’s Senior Nutrition Program.  “But even more important than the meals, is the social connection and wellbeing this service helps to foster among older residents.”

Weekly update on the Clean Collaborative Crew’s actions from June 28, 2021, to July 2, 2021:
The crew cleaned approximately 72.6 curb miles and collected 239 bags, 12 Tires, and 25 Other Items. Other items include everything from vehicle wreckage to illegally dumped bulky items. Also, from June 28 to July 4, the Louisville Downtown Partnership’s Clean Collaborative Crew collected 1,388 pounds of litter and debris in their expanded area. In addition, their Ambassadors collected 2,566 pounds of litter and debris within the BID during the same time.

Pop-Up Drop-Offs are free recycling and large item disposal events for residents of Jefferson County. Through a partnership between the Department of Public Works, the Waste Management District, and Metro Council, these events are held monthly, March through November, at various locations.

The July event is scheduled for Saturday, July 24, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Metro Fleet Services, 3515 Newburg Road.

Residents can have documents shredded, recycle electronics, tires, and scrap metal, dispose of prescription medication and bulky items, and compost yard debris. Items must be separated into those various categories for easy off-loading at each area. Limitations and guidelines are found at Louisvilleky.gov/PopUps. 

The goal is to give all Jefferson County residents opportunities to dispose of unwanted items properly and to keep as much material out of the landfill as possible. 

Future events will be announced and are posted on the Recycle Coach app calendar.

You can also recycle up to three electronic devices, up to four tires, and dispose of up to three large household items for free, year-round at the Waste Reduction Center at 636 Meriwether Avenue.

Fan Fair giveaway qualifications and guidelines are as follows:

• Person 60 years of age or older
• Or documentation verified by a physician of a disability
• Resident of Jefferson, Oldham, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble or Bullitt Counties

• Household must not have functional central air conditioning

With an increase of illegal activity from vandalism, vehicle thefts and items stolen from vehicles to gun shots reported. LMPD has several tips that may seem simple but very effective!

1. Immediately report any suspicious person, activity (gunshots), or vehicles to (502) 574-7111 or (502) 574-TIPS. This is not just for vehicle vandalism but drug activity, home/garage vandalism, gun shots - ANY suspicious activity! Make a police report! Ask for an Officer to return your call for service! IT DOES HELP IN GETTING ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICERS IN OUR DISTRICT!

2. Start a Block Watch!
3. Never leave anything of value in your vehicle; this includes laptops, purses, GPS devices and even loose change.
4. Always lock your vehicle doors.
5. Remove garage door openers from vehicles usually parked outside.
6. Do not leave your keys in your vehicle. Do not warm up your vehicles without you in them!
7. Do not leave the windows of you vehicle open, or partially open.
8. Try to park your vehicle in a well-lit area.
9. Consider additional lighting around your property.
10. Never leave a firearm unprotected in your vehicle
