RE: Neighborhood meeting for a proposed a zone change request from RR to C-2 on approximately
5.86 acres of the overall 24.04 acre property to allow a Southeastern Salvage / Home Emporium retail home goods business on property located on the south side of S. English Station Road at its intersection with Echo Trail at 2612 S. English Station Road.
As promised in the letter previously mailed to you on June 14th regarding the above referenced proposed zone change, below is the information for the in-person neighbor meeting. Also, the presentation shown will be the same at both the virtual meeting and the in-person meeting.
As stated in our previous letters, 2NDS IN BUILDING MATERIALS, INC. is seeking approval of a rezoning from RR to C-2 on the property referenced above to repurpose the buildings used by the former horse riding operation into an upscale home goods business. The project is proposed to consist of the
repurposing of the existing 49,068 sf of building footprint previously used for the stables, riding areas,
and business office with an additional 25,000 sf building added to rear of the existing buildings for a total
of 74,068 sf of retail space on approximately 5.86 acres of the overall site. As such, a plan was filed for pre-application review with Metro Planning and Design Services (PDS) that was assigned case number 21-ZONEPA-0064 and case manager Joel Dock.
The in-person meeting will be held on Thursday, July 8th beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary at the Reformed Baptist Church located at 3400 Wilderness Trail, Louisville, Kentucky 40299 (enter the Sanctuary through the doors at the main entrance under the carport).
If you are unable to attend the virtual or in-person meeting, or have any questions or comments, please feel free to email or call me, or contact the PDS manager listed on the attached contact information sheet.
We look forward to our opportunity to visit with you.

There will be a full road closure at the 4100 block of Chenoweth Run Road on Tuesday, July 6th through Friday, July 16th for a MSD sewer connection project.
In addition to detour signs, message boards will be placed giving advanced notice of and mileage to the closure.
In an effort to give you advance warning we are releasing this information now. We are very concerned about the impact this will have on traffic that typically utilizes Chenoweth Run Road but we can’t legally stop it from proceeding.
As additional information becomes available we will again post on https://www.facebook.com/councilmanbenson and the District 20 eNewsletter.

PLANNING & DESIGN SERVICES
The Metro Budget that was passed by the Metro Council is a document that amends the plan provided by the Mayor to include the priorities of the entire community. When done well, representatives from all parts of Jefferson County have a say and are able to leave their mark on the document. This year, with the leadership of the Budget Committee Chair and Vice-Chair, the Metro Council was again able to find a way to work together and make significant improvements to the budget to improve investments in deferred maintenance, pay for public safety, as well as supporting those people most hurt by the events of the past year.
The Metro Council’s amended budget seeks to fix what we already own and invest more on what works. The amendment funds over $22 million in paving (up from under $5 million annually just six years ago), invests more in police and public safety, increases investment in maintenance in our parks and libraries and improves our care for medians, as well as those properties tagged with graffiti or other vandalism.
This budget wasn’t just about addressing deferred maintenance. Our budget reduces the amount that Metro borrows by $10 million from the original proposal and restores some of the services cut by the mayor a few years ago. It calls for the construction and eventual opening of a new Library in Southeastern Jefferson County to fill the void left from the closure of the Fern Creek Library, and funds the reopening of a Neighborhood Place in the eastern portion of Jefferson County.
This budget is not perfect. If given my preferences, our government would have fewer new positions as well as millions less in new debt. Despite these disagreements, the process used to increase this budget was fair and focused on getting results. In a time in which our national politics have galvanized much of our communications, our budget process served as a blueprint for doing things the right way.
The Miracle League Ballfields at Fern Creek Park (8703 Fern Dale Road) have been a blessing to families for our region for a few years. The league, which serves 250-300 families draws from throughout the region. The Miracle League of Louisville’s goal is to provide a quality Little League-size baseball field with a navigable playing surface that allows children with all types of disabilities to play safely. The field is fully accessible to wheelchairs and safe for children with other disabilities. Additionally, the non-profit has already constructed a playground adjacent to the field. This playground allows Miracle League participants and their friends to play side by side in a safe and inviting environment with some equipment that is completely unique to our community.
This year the Metro Council added more funding to help continue to implement the long-term vision of the league. In addition to the construction of completely accessible restrooms, funding has been added to this year’s budget to assist with the construction of a new pavilion near the fields to serve families needing respite from the sun.
While I am proud to help support this worth-while project, additional community support is needed to help bring the final phase of the park into fruition. The league is currently looking to raise the needed funding for a splash pad to also serve ALL users of the park. This splash pad, like the playground would have persons of all abilities in mind and would complete the vision laid out in the Miracle League of Louisville’s long-term plan. If you would like to get involved with the Miracle League either as a volunteer or by making a financial contribution or if you would just like to learn more about the league please visit https://miracleleaguelouisville.org/ or you can call Barbara Raley at (502) 445-9430.
